The Note Edge Release Date: Everything You Need to Know

Published

on

Yesterday, Samsung and its U.S. carrier partners finally confirmed a number of new Galaxy Note Edge release and Galaxy Note Edge release date details for buyers in the United States. Today, we want to take a look at the most important things that prospective buyers need to know about the Galaxy Note Edge’s upcoming release.

Two months ago, Samsung executives took the stage in Berlin, Germany to announce a number of new products. While the company put the spotlight on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the company also announced its new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, a device that shares many of the Galaxy Note 4′s features but comes with a curved display.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone and one that should be intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone. Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge specs include a Quad HD resolution, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus and a unique curved display.

In October, Samsung released the Galaxy Note Edge in Korea and Japan ahead of several others including Galaxy Note Edge releases in the UK, China, Russia, India, Australia, and the United States. Yesterday, after several weeks of waiting, the U.S. Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date was confirmed for several U.S. carriers. And while we now have a ton of new details to work with, there are still some pieces to the puzzle that remain out of reach.

Here, we take a look at what we know so far about the U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date, the Galaxy Note Edge price, and many of the other important details regarding the device’s upcoming arrival in the United States of America.

Galaxy Note Edge Release on All Five Carriers

The first thing prospective Galaxy Note Edge buyers in the United States need to know is that the Galaxy Note Edge release is going to take place on all five major carriers in the United States. That means that AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon. U.S. Cellular was not included on the original list which makes its release a little surprising but not unexpected.

In true Samsung fashion, last night’s release announcement was all over the place. Carriers will be offering the device starting on different dates and at different prices. That said, the main thing here is that all five carriers will have it stocked at some point in the future with the first release dates set to take place in the next few days.

It’s kind of odd that the U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note Edge hasn’t emerged on its website yet but Samsung confirmed the details so it looks like a U.S. Cellular release is happening.

AT&T Galaxy Note Edge Release Date First

It looks like AT&T, a closer partner of Samsung’s, will release the Galaxy Note Edge first. The carrier confirmed that select stores will have the Galaxy Note Edge on display starting November 7th. That’s this Friday which gives buyers very little time to prepare. It’s not clear which stores will have it in stock so those interested will certainly want to call ahead to confirm the device’s arrival.

Sprint Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Confirmed

Sprint also confirmed a Galaxy Note Edge release date yesterday though the carrier will be releasing the device a week after AT&T. Sprint will carry the Galaxy Note Edge starting November 14th, a week after AT&T, and a few weeks ahead of Black Friday and the start of the holiday shopping season. It’s not clear if Sprint will be using a limited approach like AT&t or if it will be available nationwide.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Confirmed

Late in the day, T-Mobile announced its own Galaxy Note Edge release date. The UnCarrier will starting carrying the Galaxy Note Edge on November 14th, same as Sprint. The carrier says that it will have the device available online through its web portal but that it will also make the Galaxy Note Edge available throguh participating stores.

Keep in mind, T-Mobile’s smartphones are typically much harder to find. Major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy do not stock their virtual or physical shelves with T-Mobile phones and those looking to buy the Galaxy Note Edge on T-Mobile will almost certainly have to buy from T-Mobile itself or an authorized reseller. Fortunately, there are T-Mobile stores all over the place.

Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Release Date Moving Closer

Verizon, one of the nation’s most popular carriers, did not announce a Galaxy Note Edge release date. Verizon has been late to several smartphone releases including the Galaxy Note 4 release date though nothing is certain here.

What we do know is that the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date is inching closer. The device recently passed its GCF certification, one of the final steps needed ahead of its release. We still haven’t seen it pass through the FCC though which is cause for concern. FCC certifications are necessary before a device can be released onto shelves and that’s probably why we haven’t seen Verizon confirm a release date.

The AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile models all passed thru the FCC a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully, the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge’s absence doesn’t lead to a delay. Look for Verizon to confirm release details later this year.

U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note Edge Details MIA

U.S. Cellular’s Galaxy Note Edge release remains pretty mysterious. We know that the device is coming and that’s about it. It hasn’t passed thru GCF and as far as we can tell, it hasn’t passed through the FCC. U.S. Cellular remains elusive when it comes to details about price and release though it should share details at a later date.

The nation’s fifth largest carrier typically falls in line with its brethren when it comes to price and release date. That is to say that its on-contract price should be close to the on-contract price on carriers like AT&t and Sprint and its release date shouldn’t be too far off the pace.

Galaxy Note Edge More Expensive Than Galaxy Note 4

We now know that the Galaxy Note Edge is more expensive than the Galaxy Note 4. The Galaxy Note 4 starts at $299.99 on-contract and sits between $699 and $826 off-c0ntract in the United States. Here’s what the Galaxy Note Edge price looks like right now.

AT&T’s NEXT monthly pricing is $39.42 for 18 months or $47.30 for 12 months. On-contract, AT&T will charge $400 for the Galaxy Note Edge. Off-contract, the Galaxy Note Edge price comes to $945.95. That’s very, very expensive for a smartphone and one of the most expensive off-contract price points we’ve ever seen.

Sprint also confirmed a Galaxy Note Edge price yesterday. The Now Network will charge $35 for 24 months, or $840 total, with Sprint Easy Pay. It’s not clear how much the carrier will charge for the Galaxy Note Edge on-contract though we suspect that it probably won’t be too far off the AT&T on-contract price of $399.99.

T-Mobile tells Gotta Be Mobile that it will sell the Galaxy Note Edge for $0 down and $36.25 per month which works out to $870 off-contract. That’s not too bad but still more expensive than the Galaxy Note 4. Pricing for the U.S. Cellular and Verizon models remains out of reach.

Galaxy Note Edge at Best Buy

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will be sold at Best Buy and it looks like the device has finally made it up on the retailers website. Best Buy lists two Galaxy Note Edge models, both unlocked, and they come with absurd price tags. You can’t buy either of them just yet and that’s a good thing. Best Buy lists them with $1,159.99 off-contract price tags. That price could stick but it’s not confirmed.

Best Buy will almost certainly sell the AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Galaxy Note Edge models though none of those models have appeared on the retailers website. We imagine that they will on or around the release dates.

Reasons to Skip Galaxy Note Edge Pre-Orders…If They Happen

We still don’t know if any of these carriers will take pre-orders though we have seen Galaxy Note Edge pre-orders emerge on eBay. Skip them, and skip carrier pre-orders.

Two Color Options Only

A reminder. The Galaxy Note Edge will only come in two colors, black and white. We aren’t sure if there will be new colors down the road though given the device’s concept status, there’s a very good chance that we’ll see Samsung stick with those two. To get a good look at how the black Galaxy Note Edge is going to look out of the box, check out the unboxing video below.

No Galaxy Note Edge Deals, Yet

The final bit of information that you need to know is that we have yet to discover any valid Galaxy Note Edge deals ahead of its arrival on Friday. Those of you who are looking to save a bit on these exorbitant prices should consider waiting until the Galaxy Note Edge release date has come and gone.

While we may not see insane discounts, with Black Friday coming up, it’s possible that we’ll see the price dip a bit. Keep that in mind before pulling the trigger on release day.
