Nintendo announced the new Zelda: Majora’s Mask release this morning, a remake of the popular Nintendo 64 game upgraded and re-made for handhelds.

Although Nintendo refuses to jump over to tablets and smartphones, this is exciting news for gamers who fondly remember playing Zelda: Majora’s Mask on the N64, with the expansion pack.

Instead of looking for a N64 iPad emulator, you will soon be able to play a re-made version of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask on the 3DS.

During the Nintendo Direct Live Stream on November 5th, Nintendo shared the details about the new Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3DS release and offered a short preview of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D.

Watch the two-minute Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D video below for a look at the announcement. The short video shows off footage of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, followed by the announcement that this is coming to the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS only.

There is no footage of gamers playing Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D on the 3DS or 2DS, so there are still plenty of questions left about how you’ll use the controls on a mobile device, but there is time for that reveal later.

Nintendo announced a broad The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D release date of Spring 2015. This is not coming to the Wii or Wii U, only to the Nintendo handhelds.

Nintendo just delivered the Super Smash Bros Nintendo 3DS release at the beginning of October and soon will add to the Wii U lineup with a new Super Smash Bros. release on November 21st.

In the mobile space Nintendo stays off iPhone, iPad and Android devices in favor of the portable consoles like the Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS.

The top screen is larger than the first generation 3DS and still offers a 3D experience without the need for glasses. The bottom screen offers touch controls in addition to physical buttons that players will also user for many controls.

Last year the Nintendo 2DS arrived without 3D, but the cheaper price makes it more attractive for some gamers. At $119 regularly it is a tempting option for many, and now Black Friday deals push the price of a 2DS down to $79 at Walmart.

The video review above covers the main differences between these Nintendo handheld consoles – showing the Nintendo 3DS vs Nintendo 3DS XL vs Nintendo 2DS in a head to head review of each console. If the Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D release has you excited about any of these, this is a good introduction to the options.

You can expect to see several Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS Black Friday 2014 deals in the coming weeks.
