Galaxy Note Edge Release: 7 Last Minute Tips for Buyers

With a massive Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date set for this Friday, we want to offer some last minute tips that could help those looking into buying the Galaxy Note Edge on its release date or in the days ahead.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone and it’s one that should be intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone. The Galaxy Note Edge specs include a curved Quad HD resolution display, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus like all Galaxy Note variants.

As we’ve moved away from its September launch, we’ve started to hear a ton about its release date including the highly anticipated U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date here in the United States. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon are all set to carry the Galaxy Note Edge and several are poised to release the unique, and expensive, flagship from Samsung.

Tomorrow represents the first major Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date in the United States. AT&T is currently stocking the device in select stores but tomorrow, Sprint and T-Mobile join in on the fun. U.S. Cellular and Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release dates remain a mystery but they should be getting closer by the day.

We’ve heard from a number of people who are struggling with a decision ahead of the Galaxy Note Edge’s release date this Friday. That’s not surprising given how competitive the market is right now. The Galaxy Note Edge is a solid Galaxy Note 4 competitor and it’s also a device that many consumers are going to weigh against the likes of the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and LG G3.

With those people in mind, we want to offer some last minute buying advice to prospective Galaxy Note Edge buyers, ahead of the Galaxy Note Edge’s release date later this week.

Do Not Pre-Order Right Now

There is no reason to put in a Galaxy Note Edge pre-order now ahead of the Galaxy Note Edge release date. If you’ve waited this long, you should wait for the Galaxy Note Edge to hit shelves. Not only will this allow you to go hands on, it will allow you to take advantage of deals that might pop up before and after Black Friday.

AT&T is currently the only U.S. carrier taking pre-orders but we’ve seen pre-orders emerge at retailers like Expanys. With a day to go before the release, there’s no sense in putting in an early order now. You won’t get it early and so there’s little to no incentive to make a move. We understand that it might be tempting to place an order and be done with it but you’re better off waiting.

Keep an Eye on Galaxy Note Edge Pre-Orders

If you already pre-ordered the Galaxy Note Edge from AT&T or from some other retailer, you should start keeping an eye out for shipping information. AT&T says that it’s shipping out pre-orders by today, November 13th, which means that there is a very good chance your Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is on the way right now.

It’s going to be important to note the delivery date and details so that you don’t have a $800+ smartphone sitting on your doorstep while you’re at school or at work. Keep an eye on your shipping information at all times. It’s going to ensure that you get your pre-order, or your online order, quickly and efficiently.

Don’t Settle, If You Want Verizon Wait for Verizon

The U.S. Cellular and Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release dates remain MIA. That said, there’s no reason to cozy up with a competitor just because you’re getting impatient. The Galaxy Note Edge is an expensive smartphone, one of the most expensive on the market, and so there is absolutely no reason why you should settle based on release date timing.

If you want the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge or are at least thinking about buying the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge, wait for the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date and pricing details to arrive. There is no sense in shifting to AT&T just because you’re frustrated that Verizon is up to its old tricks with a missing release date. Get what you want and don’t settle for anything less.

Go Hands-on Now, If You Can

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is currently in select AT&T stores. We don’t know how many are currently showcasing the new device so you’ll want to call ahead before trying to go hands-on today. If you can wait a day though, you’ll be in much better shape. Tomorrow, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile stores should all have stock available and we highly recommend going hands-on with that stock before buying the Galaxy Note Edge.

As we’ve noted many, many times, the Galaxy Note Edge is a device that you absolutely need to go hands on with ahead of time. It comes with a massive display which makes for huge device, it comes with a curved display that may or may not be necessary, and it comes with an S Pen stylus that contributes to its hefty $299.99 price tag. Do you really need the S Pen, a curved display or a massively sized smartphone? You need to answer those questions before buying and in our opinion, you can’t answer them from behind a computer screen.

You also should also wait to go hands on with top rivals including the LG G3, iPhone 6 Plus, Galaxy S5, Motorola Droid Turbo, and the Nexus 6. You should also check out the Galaxy Note 4. It comes with similar hardware and a cheaper price.

If you haven’t done your homework on any of these devices and if you haven’t gone hands on, do not buy the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge tomorrow or over the weekend.

Don’t Wait for More Storage or Colors

If you’re waiting for more internal storage or new Galaxy Note Edge colors to arrive alongside the black and white options, stop waiting. Samsung and its carrier partners almost never release two storage options across all carriers. And with the Galaxy Note Edge being a concept phone, and one that supports tons of storage via microSD card, there’s really no incentive. It’s already expensive in 32GB form.

We also haven’t heard or seen anything about new colors. Samsung announced four Galaxy Note 4 colors but failed to confirm new colors for the Galaxy Note Edge. Again, this is a concept phone and there’s little chance of it debuting in an assortment of new colors down the road. Do not hold out for weeks or months waiting for any of this to change. What you see is probably what you’re going to get.

Wait a Bit for Accessories

Should you find yourself in a carrier or retail store on Friday or on a day in the near future, do your best to avoid buying Galaxy Note Edge accessories. While there should be ample stock available to you, there will also be some Galaxy Note Edge accessory releases down the road as manufacturers work to get their products out ahead of Black Friday and the holidays.

In other words, don’t buy the first case or dock that you see. Wait a little bit (if you can) for the market to open up. You should have a ton of good stuff at your disposal before the year is over. You’re already going to have to shell out a ton of money for the Galaxy Note Edge and there’s no sense in making impulsive Galaxy Note Edge accessory purchases on day one.

Think About Waiting a Few Weeks

If you can, wait a few weeks before buying. Yes, this is a concept phone but we doubt that it’s going to sell out immediately. The price tag is too steep. By waiting a few weeks, you’ll open yourself up to more releases (U.S. Cellular and Verizon) and potential deals and trade-ins that coincide with Black Friday on November 28th.

Galaxy Note Edge deals aren’t guaranteed but if they’re coming in 2014, we would expect at least a few to arrive in and around the holidays in an effort to attract buyers. With only a few weeks to go before the holiday season, we suggest taking a rain check on the Galaxy Note Edge if you can. Be patient and keep an eye out for attractive deals.
