Kindle Fire HDX Sale Knocks $140 Off on Amazon

Published

on

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a great deal on Amazon’s latest Kindle tablet, but today you can grab the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9″ for as low as $259, which is $140 off the listing price as Amazon advertises, but is truly just discounted by $110 off of the regular $379 price.

That’s still a really good deal and a nice big discount for the company’s latest tablet.

The Kindle Fire HDX is the newest addition to the Kindle lineup for Amazon, sporting faster internals and a higher-resolution display, as well as a revolutionary new customer support feature called MayDay, which allows you to get on the horn with an Amazon customer support rep through your Kindle Fire HDX tablet in case you’re having any troubles. It’s pretty much a two-way video chat session, but the rep can only see your screen and not you through the camera.

Amazon has never been shy about discounting its hardware products, dropping the price of its Kindle Fire tablets by $50 for Cyber Monday last year, as well as few other models about a week later, so we should be seeing some more good deals come Black Friday in a couple of weeks.

Kindle Fire sale

You can usually take advantage of Kindle hardware sales throughout the year, so there’s almost no reason to not wait for a good deal on a Kindle e-reader or Kindle Fire tablet, but if you’re wanting a Kindle Fire HDX, saving $110 is about the best deal you can find right now, so don’t hesitate.

It’s not mentioned if Amazon’s Special Offers will appear on this specific model that’s on sale, but we’re guessing it will. With Special Offers, you’ll see advertisements here and there, but you certainly can’t beat the price. If you can handle the occasional ad, $259 is a decent price for a really good Amazon-branded tablet, and it’s pretty much an instant buy considering you’re only paying that much dough for something that you’ll get a ton of use out of.

The Kindle Fire HDX is starting to age, but still feels relatively new, and it comes with some impressive specs. Perhaps its most impressive feature is the 1920×1200 display on the 7-inch model that provides a crisp and sharp image. The 8.9-inch version offers an even higher resolution of 2560×1600, which is actually better than the iPad.

This deal is a follow-up to last week’s Kindle Paperwhite deal, where you could get a refurbished model for just $79.

The Kindle Paperwhite costs a bit more than Amazon’s entry-level Kindle ereader, but the features are there to justify the higher cost a bit. The device includes a front-lit LED display, which means that the device lights up the screen from the front instead of the back like most LCD panels do. This prevents eye strain when reading at night.

Of course, some of the biggest advantages of an ereader like the Paperwhite is that the battery lasts a long time. Amazon says that a single charge on the Paperwhite can last up to eight weeks (based on a half hour of reading per day with wireless off and the light setting at ten). The same can’t be said for tablets, which usually only last a day or two depending on the amount of usage.

Ereaders also don’t come with any glare in bright sunlight, making them great for reading on the beach. This is thanks to the e-ink display that uses an entirely different type of screen technology than smartphones and tablets, and also uses up way less battery juice, allowing the device to last for weeks on end.

For the true book reader, there’s nothing quite better than actually handling a real book (and you can’t beat the old book smell), but for those who are more casual with their reading and don’t want the giant bookshelf collection that comes with it, a Kindle Paperwhite could be the perfect companion in your home library.
