Nexus 6 Release: 6 Details for Buyers

Published

on

Google’s brand new Nexus 6 has finally been released in the United States. An actual Nexus 6 release date was never formally announced, as Google is allowing each of the five major carriers to release the new flagship smartphone throughout the month. This kicked off last week with Sprint.

The impressive Nexus 6 was announced back on October 15th along with the Nexus 9 tablet, a Nexus Player, and the completely redesigned and improved Android 5.0 Lollipop software update. Potential buyers will want to read on regarding a few details about the Nexus 6 release, shipping, and where to get one.

The Nexus 6 release date and pre-order situation has been a bit of a mess with details being extremely scarce, inventory and stock empty from both Google and Motorola, and no word from most carriers. However, last week orders started shipping, carriers confirmed some details, and below is everything you’ll need to know.

Late last week we confirmed a few pre-orders had already started shipping for early delivery, and it looks like that’s happening from a few sources now. Those looking to buy the Nexus 6 can do so today, and those who pre-ordered can expect it soon if they didn’t get it already.

Nexus 6 Release Date

The official Nexus 6 release date was technically November 14th. As it was first chance buyers could get the new flagship smartphone. After T-Mobile delayed its launch, Sprint decided to offer the 32GB Midnight Blue Nexus 6 in stores and online. It’ll run buyers a crazy $299 with a 2-year contract, or you can use Sprint Easy Pay and make monthly payments.

Nexus 6 at Best Buy

The Nexus 6 release is starting off extremely slow, but this morning you can head into a nearby Best Buy or order the Sprint Nexus 6 online from BestBuy.com. Most likely stock is extremely limited, so users may want to hurry, but this is another option if you’d like to get it today.

Once more carriers begin offering the Nexus 6 it’s likely they’ll also be available to buy from Best Buy stores, rather than purchasing online or finding a carrier store. We’ll update as the release unfolds, but for now Sprint is the only one that has the phone available from the big box retailer.

AT&T Nexus 6

The Nexus 6 from AT&T went up for pre-order last week, but didn’t last long. The initial pre-order page stated orders would ship on November 18th, which is today, so eager buyers can expect the Nexus 6 to be coming extremely soon. AT&T still doesn’t have an in-store date, but we’ll be on the lookout for more details and have reached out to AT&T regarding the Nexus 6 release.

That all said, if you pre-ordered from AT&T expect a shipping notification soon, and a big new device to arrive shortly. AT&T still has yet to re-open the pre-order page for additional orders.

T-Mobile Nexus 6

T-Mobile was supposed to be the first carrier in the United States to offer the Nexus 6, but that plan had to be canceled. Confirming November 12th would be the release date for both the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, but last week canceled at the last minute. Instead, a week later on November 19th (tomorrow) you’ll be able to order the Nexus 6 or Nexus 9 from T-Mobile both online or in stores. It’s worth noting the 64GB model will be online only, with the 32GB option being in select stores around the nation.

Play Store Orders

Yesterday we confirmed the Nexus 6 pre-orders from Motorola.com started arriving two days early for many, and it looks like the same good news is here for those who opted to order from the Google Play Store. The Nexus 6 went up for pre-order from Google on October 29th, and those ordered had an estimated ship date of November 21st. However, this morning multiple readers have confirmed their orders have shipped today.

This is good news and another sign that Google and Motorola are finally loading up on inventory and are ready to start delivering orders. My overnight delivery October 29th pre-order has yet to ship, but hopefully more details arrive and a confirmation email from Google is sent out. We’ve seen some “shipping confirmation” emails arrive after devices have actually been delivered, so be on the lookout for the Nexus 6, even if you don’t get an email from Google.

Where’s Verizon?

So far we’ve received word regarding a Nexus 6 release from Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile, with both US Cellular and Verizon Wireless being completely silent. Earlier this month Google confirmed all but Verizon in a quick post on the Play Store, suggesting they’ll all offer the phone before the end of November. That’s good new for all those carriers, including US Cellular, but Verizon was oddly missing from that post.

As you can see above, directly from the Google Play Store, Google has no details regarding the Verizon Nexus 6 release date. We’re expecting some sort of announcement sooner rather than later, but Verizon users may be waiting until December to get their hands on the new smartphone. We’ll update when we know more.

Did you get the Nexus 6? If so, has it arrived or shipped yet? Let us know in the comment section below.
