Google’s new Motorola Nexus 6 smartphone is finally available this week from three carriers in the United States, as well as from the Google Play Store, Motorola.com, and even some Best Buy stores. Now that the phone is headed to users hands, we’re getting a few questions regarding how to complete certain tasks.

The Nexus 6 is packed with impressive features and a beautiful 5.96-inch display, as well as dual front facing speakers for excellent sound and video playback. It has a lot to offer, but one thing we always get questions about for each phone that is released is how to take a screenshot. This task has been achieved the same way on Android for years, but for those who are new, below are a few details.

This feature or trick is an old one that’s been available in the same method on Android for years, but one that many consumers want to learn right away and start enjoying. Another problem is this is performed different on Samsung Galaxy devices, which are the most popular Android phones, so Nexus 6 owners will want to read on past the break to find out how to take a screeny.

If you’ve ever owned or used an Android device in the past few years you’ll be right at home and probably won’t even need to search how. However, if you’re new to smartphones, an Android convert leaving the iPhone or Windows Phone, below are the few simple steps you’ll need to take in order to capture and save a screenshot.

For those confused. A screenshot (or screencap) is essentially our smartphones capturing and saving whatever is on the screen. This can then be edited or cropped to get exactly what you want, and comes in extremely handy for a variety of uses. Anything from sharing emails, saving pictures on social sites, and many other things.

Instructions

Without taking forever to explain it, here’s how to take a screenshot on the Nexus 6.

All you’ll need to do is simply push and hold both the power button and the volume down key at the same time. Push both at exactly the same time, hold for a moment, and let go. It’s that easy, and you’ll hear a camera shutter-like sound and see a visual screen capture effect or animation right on that big 5.96-inch display.

With both the power and volume buttons being on the same side, and the Nexus 6 being a massive smartphone, you’ll likely need two hands to perform this task. That, or simply use one hand and turn the phone sideways to get a good angle to quickly long-press both buttons.

From here you’ll see the screen capture has been saved. It is now accessible in the notification pulldown bar to view, share, or even edit, and you can also head into the phones gallery app (Photos) and find it for more sharing options or choices.

If you try and it doesn’t work, try again. It’s all about hitting them at the same time with a brief pause, then letting go. Timing is everything, and it’s easy one you figure it out.

You’re all done and that’s all there is to it. This same method works on almost all Android smartphones and tablets that aren’t a Samsung. As they want you to hit power and the home button instead. The more you know, the better. Enjoy!
