New HTC Flagship Rumored to Take on Galaxy S6

With 2015 fast approaching more and more reports and rumors have started to surface regarding what’s coming next from some of the most popular smartphones manufacturers. Of course talk of the new Samsung Galaxy S6 has already begun, and today new details have arrived that HTC may abandoned the One lineup with an all-new flagship smartphone.

Earlier this month some new details surfaced regarding a new and improved HTC One M9 smartphone for 2015, and while it sounded decent, it may not be the best the company has to offer.

Over the past two years HTC has delivered quality smartphones with the original HTC One, and then the HTC One M8 in 2014, and many expected something similar next year. While it’s likely we’ll still see an HTC One M9, new reports today suggest something even better is coming from HTC codenamed the HTC Hima.

Last year the HTC One M8 was a highly rumored device around this time of year, and the company surprised many be announcing and releasing it all at the end of March, on the same day. Beating many of its competitors like the Galaxy S5 and LG G3 to market.

And while rumors of a similar release are floating around for the HTC One M9, it’s the new HTC Hima that has many buyers interest piqued. According to the popular leakster on Twitter, @upleaks, the new HTC Hima will be quite the smartphone, and likely something completely different than the HTC One M9.

Rather than take on the big Nexus 6, LG G3 (or upcoming LG G4) and many other larger smartphones, the HTC Hima will be slightly different. According to his sources it will feature a 5-inch FHD display, and a powerful 8-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, an impressive camera, and a massive battery. All things that previous HTC releases haven’t had, but many buyers want.

HTC Hima Specs (Rumored)

  • 5-inch FHD 1920 x 1080p Display
  • 8-core Snapdragon 810 processor (64-bit)
  • 3GB of RAM
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop and Sense UI 7.0
  • 20.7 Megapixel rear and 13 MP front camera
  • 2,840 mAh battery

So far that’s all the details his sources were able to uncover, but so far it sounds like an impressive all around smartphone for those who don’t want a large phablet-type device.

With Android 5.0 Lollipop Google introduced support for 64-bit computing, something that will enhance performance and overall usage of smartphones, and make the Android operating system much smoother. We’re expecting many major smartphone and tablet releases in 2015 to all support 64-bit, like the Nexus 9, and this is among the first rumors of one doing so.

Last weeks report of the HTC One M9 was a large 5.5-inch smartphone and some decent overall specs, but they weren’t quite as impressive sounding as the device mentioned above. This could mean HTC will continue the “One” branding in March or April like previous years, then release the HTC Hima at a later date to take on the Galaxy S6, LG G4, and possibly even the iPhone 6S or iPhone 7.

This rumor made no mention of the “One” branding, the aluminum design materials we’ve grown to love from HTC, or the boomsound front facing speakers on its recent smartphone releases. For now it’s too early to tell, but with CES coming up early next month and the new wave of smartphones for 2015 underway, we’ll be learning more extremely soon.
