PS4 Deal Gets Buyers Get a Free Game in New Bundle

Sony hasn’t yet announced a price cut as steep as what Microsoft has for its Xbox One console, but that doesn’t mean holiday PS4 shoppers shouldn’t still be excited. When users purchase a PS4 gaming console this holiday season they’ll get to choose one of four games to download absolutely free.

Sony announced the new bundle on its PlayStation Blog. It was just one of the many announcements the company made during the PlayStation Experience, a weekend long event in Las Vegas filled with hands on demos of upcoming games for the PS4 and more.

The PS4 deal is pretty simple. Sony is including a digital voucher in the box with every PS4 console sold in the United States. Users who take advantage of the PS4 deal will need to redeem that voucher on Sony’s website for a code that that they then have to redeem in the PlayStation Store for their free game. It’s a great deal for anyone who already planned to purchase a PS4 over the holiday season and wanted to pick up one of the games included in the promotion. This PS4 deal is an easy way to get up and running with a PS4.

Sony isn’t letting users choose from any game in its PS4 games catalogue. Instead, PS4 deal seekers will have Destiny, NBA 2K15, Far Cry 4, and Little Big Planet 3. Each of those games would normally cost $59.99. Destiny is an online first-person shooter from the same studio that produced Halo for Microsoft. It weaves online character customization and more. Far Cry 4 is an action adventure game that takes place in an open world. NBA 2K15 is this year’s most high-profile basketball game available on an entertainment console. Finally, Little Big Planet 3 is a platform game that includes a lot of customization options. All four of these games arrived on store shelves this year; so it’s not as if Sony is simply handing out access to old, less relevant games. This PS4 deal is only available to shoppers in the United States.

This PS4 deal isn’t a quick way to get your hands on titles for resale. These are digital titles. Users will download them to their console and access them wherever their PlayStation Network account is signed into. Buyers can’t, for example, resell these games at all. PS4 buyers who take advantage of this deal should note that this free game is on top of the free games Sony makes available to PlayStation Network subscribers who have a PlayStation Plus account. PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer on the PS4.

Sony isn’t yet saying how long this PS4 deal will last. It’s possible it could just be a limited time offering, or something more permanent. We’ll have to wait until the holiday season ends to find out if Sony will use the free game to boost sales against Microsoft’s Xbox One console. The Xbox One and PS4 are just two of the gifts included in Gotta Be Mobile’s holiday buying guide.

Microsoft is using the lure of free games to attract gamers to the Xbox One and has been doing so for months. Originally, its Xbox One console came with no free games and a Kinect 2 sensor for $499. Today, the Xbox One costs $399 without a Kinect 2 sensor and has sold with free copies of Titanfall, Forza 5, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Madden NFL 15 and Sunset Overdrive. During the holiday season, Microsoft is putting even more pressure on the PS4. For a limited time Microsoft has lowered the cost of the Xbox One without a Kinect 2 sensor to just $349.
