Nexus 4 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update Imminent

Published

on

The Nexus 4 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is confirmed and a Nexus 4 Android 5.0.1 release is imminent now that Google’s pushed the appropriate files into the Android Open Source Project.

Earlier this month, Google released a brand new Nexus Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the form of Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. The update is a follow up to the Android 5.0 Lollipop update that deployed in November, and a small bug fix update that’s already rolled out to owners of the Nexus 9, Nexus 7 2013 and the Nexus 10.

The Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is an update aimed at squashing the Lollipop problems that arrived on board the company’s massive Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade. Android 5.0 Lollipop problems have been prevalent for a number of weeks now and Google is clearly hard at work behind the scenes trying to get control over them.

Since the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop release, Google’s been silent. The company pushed out three Android 5.0.1 updates though the company failed to confirm any other Android 5.0.1 Lollipop details. Until today. Today, the company pushed out two new Android 5.0.1 Lollipop updates including a Nexus 4 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update that should help to fix some of the issues Nexus 4 users have discovered in the days after their upgrade to Android 5.0.

The Nexus 4 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update joins the Nexus 6 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update in Google’s Android Open Source Project. The update, to our knowledge, is not yet rolling out Over-the-Air but an OTA release should be imminent now that Google’s pushed the Nexus 4 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop factory image to the AOSP. Usually, OTAs follow closely behind so it should only be a matter of time before the Nexus 4 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update starts rolling out.

Given Google’s silence about the Nexus 9, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop roll outs, there’s a chance that the company will not choose to publicize the release or tag it with a release date. The company could simply decide to quietly start the roll out which means that Nexus 4 users need to be on their toes during the next week or so.

Google’s Android OTA process is a slow one and it typically takes a week or more for it to push out the upgrade to everyone. So while some Nexus 4 users should get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update this week, many others will have to wait.

Those looking to install the Nexus 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update early can sideload the proper files though those with no prior experience are advised to wait for the OTA because sideloading can often have unintended consequences. Those who are adept at manually installing updates should have no problem getting the software on board ahead of Google’s sluggish roll out process.

Developers are working on a Nexus 4 Android L port.

It’s not clear yet what’s on the Nexus 4 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update but Google’s Android updates for Nexus devices tend not to differ to much from one another. In other words, the Nexus 4’s update should be similar to the Android 5.0.1 updates that pushed out earlier this month for that trio of Nexus-branded tablets.

The Nexus 5 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update remains missing in action though given the presence of these two upgrades, it’s possible that Google has an upgrade up its sleeve. The company also still owes owners of the cellular Nexus 7 models an Android 5.0 Lollipop update as both of those devices are still stuck on Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s not clear when those update will roll out though users should get Android 5.0.1 and not Android 5.0.

With several Android 5.0.1 updates on tap, it could be that we’re closer than ever to the few remaining Android 5.0 Lollipop updates, and those who are still stuck on Android 5.0 or Android 4.4 KitKat will want to keep an eye out as we push deeper into the month of December.
