D-Link AC3200 Ultra Router Enables Extreme Home Networking

D-Link announced that it is now shipping the first of its ULTRA Performance Series routers at CES 2015. Routers don’t get a lot of people excited these days, but D-Link is trying to change that with a router that looks more like a high-performance auto part and that can deliver wireless speeds of up to 5.3 Gbps.

The AC 3200’s extreme speeds are over the top for most households, but gamers and people who bounce tons of media back and forth will appreciate this router’s capabilities. If you’re looking for your router to blend into your home’s background, the D-Link AC3200 most certainly isn’t the router for you. As you can see in the above video montage, the D-Link AC3200 sports six high-powered antennas that should offer much better coverage than your existing router.

The D-Link AC3200 supports Wi-Fi AC connections of up to 1300 Mbps on its 5Ghz band and up to 600 Mbps on its 2.4GHz band. The back of the device has four 1 Gbps Ethernet ports and USB 3.0 ports. The device can be wall-mounted or displayed on any flat surface.

Like other new D-Link routers, the AC3200 can be controlled via the company’s smartphone app. Users can block sites, grant access to the network and manage parental controls straight from the app.

The D-Link AC3200 ULTRA is available now from NewEgg.com for $309.99. 

D-Link also introduced the DWA-192 AC 1900 Wi-Fi USB adapter, a gadget designed to boost PCs wireless networking speeds. This sort of device can be used by gamers to reduce lag and improve wireless streaming experiences when paired with modern routers. This Wi-Fi USB adapter matches the AC3200’s wireless speeds, delivering up to 1,300 Mbps over the air. D-Link says the device will start shipping sometime in the spring of this year and hasn’t announced pricing yet.
