Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Update Breakdown (January)

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop update isn’t available just yet but we know that we’re getting closer to the start of the highly anticipated roll out. With that in mind, we want to take a look at what we know about the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop update and its release as we push into the new year.

This past summer, Google took the stage at its annual Google I/O developer conference to detail its latest Android operating system, an operating system that was once called Android L. In November, Google once again confirmed its Android L operating system only this time the company gave it a name, Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is one of Google’s biggest updates to the Android operating system and its an update that brings a number of big time features including the company’s new Material Design. These changes are massive for owners of Google’s Nexus smartphones and tablets and they’re going to be huge for owners of Samsung’s smartphones and tablets.

Samsung is the world’s largest Android manufacturer and it’s responsible for devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the curved version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The Galaxy Note Edge hasn’t been upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop, it remains on Android 4.4 KitKat, but all signs point to a roll out in the coming weeks.

Over the past month or so, we’ve seen Samsung Galaxy Note Lollipop update details emerge at breakneck pace. Keeping track of these details can be difficult. That’s where we come in. Today, we want to breakdown the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop update and release as we offer a look at the update’s current status.

Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop Update

First things first. The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop update was not among Samsung’s initial Android 5.0 Lollipop announcements though we know that a Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update is coming.

We know this because the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update leaked several days ago. The leak shows off an unfinished version of the update but that doesn’t matter. It’s clear that Samsung has this update in its labs behind the scenes and those who bought into Samsung’s concept smartphone needn’t worry.

We also know this because Samsung Denmark confirmed an Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note Edge. Here’s what the company says on its website:

Now we begin the update to the operating system Android 5.0 Lollipop. Samsung Galaxy S5 is the model that is first in line, followed Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4. Later in 2015, also Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy S5 Active, Galaxy S5 Mini, Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 2 will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The update provides an enhanced user experience and provides a more minimalist interface with strong background colors. The update via Samsung Kies, and the exact date for when the update is rolled out, vary by model, country and operator.

None of this comes as much of a surprise. The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is one of Samsung’s newest phones and there was zero chance of it missing out on the upgrade to Lollipop. So now, the real question is when. Unfortunately, that’s not a question we can answer, definitively, at this time.

Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date

Samsung is not yet talking about a specific Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop release date. Not surprising given that it hasn’t been talking about any specific release dates for Lollipop upgrades. We do have a clue though, at least for the international community.

If you refer back to the above quote from Samsung Denmark, you’ll notice that the company says that the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update will arrive “later in 2015.”

We suspect that this means that they will follow the Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note 3. Those four devices are expected to be at the front of the line in most regions including the United States.

U.S. Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Update

Samsung and its U.S. carrier partners aren’t talking about the Lollipop update yet but we do have one interesting clue. A leak from a Samsung Mobile employee in the United States points to two Android 5.0 Lollipop updates heading out to Galaxy users in January. Unsurprisingly, those are the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 updates. Nothing is confirmed but given the other rhetoric we’ve seen, it makes sense.

The leak also suggests that the Galaxy Note Edge will be included in the initial Android 5.0 updates for Galaxy devices. It’s not clear when it will get the update, that depends on testing and carriers, but it does look like the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop will be among the first to land for users in the United States. U.S. carriers typically don’t confirm details until the actual roll out dates so Galaxy Note Edge users shouldn’t expect any early details. Official ones, at least.

Ugh, this site is guilty of some of the worst clickbait on the Internet.

    Headline “Lollipop Update!”
Article “Here are some rumors; I don’t actually know anything for sure though.”
