4 Reasons to Update to iOS 8.1.3 on Release Day

The Apple rumor mill is buzzing this week and it looks like the company is preparing to push out a brand new iOS 8.1.3 update ahead of iOS 8.2. With iOS 8.1.3 update rumors pointing to an arrival in the near future, we want to take a look at some reasons why you might want to install the iOS 8.1.3 update if, and when, it arrives.

Apple’s been dealing with a number of iOS 8 problems since the software’s launch back in September of last year. iOS 8 problems have ranged from landscape issues on the iPhone 6 to the usual array of problems with battery life, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Over the past few months, the company’s been hard at working trying to fix as many hiccups as it can and its done so through a series of iOS 8 updates for iPhone and iPad.

Since September, Apple’s pushed out iOS 8.0.1, iOS 8.0.2, iOS 8.1, iOS 8.1.1 and iOS 8.1.2 bug fixes to help alleviate the problems iPhone and iPad users have been experiencing on iOS 8. Thanks to these updates, the iOS 8 experience for many has become more stable. For others, iOS 8 problems continue to linger around.

Excitement has been in the air since late last year when Apple released an iOS 8.2 update into its beta program. iOS x.x updates typically are larger than standard bug fixers and iPhone and iPad users are hopeful that iOS 8.2, thought to be coming alongside the new Apple Watch, will come with bug fixes for their problems.

The iOS 8.2 release date is thought to still be weeks away though it looks like Apple might another iOS 8 update up its sleeve. iOS 8.1.3 rumors have started to heat up and it looks like an iOS 8.1.3 release for iPhone and iPad could come as soon as this week. Credible rumors suggest that the update was recently passed off to Apple employees and that the company is targeting a release for this month.

This news obviously has iPhone and iPad users elated, especially those dealing with iOS 8 problems. And while there are some reasons to think about avoiding the iOS 8.1.3 update on the day that it arrives, there are also some reasons why you might want to install the update on the day that it comes out. Here we play Devil’s Advocate and take a look at some reasons why you might want to take the plunge if and when iOS 8.1.3 lands for your device.

You Can’t Fix Your iOS 8 Problems

If you cannot find a fix for your iOS 8 problems, and some people we’ve spoken to cannot, then you probably want to install the iOS 8.1.3 update right when it comes out assuming major bugs aren’t discovered in the minutes and hours after its release.

While iOS 8.1.2 is perhaps the most stable iOS 8 update we’ve encountered, there are still iOS 8.1.2 problems affecting many iPhone users. And while some of these problems can be fixed with third-party fixes, there are others that may not have a permanent fix. If you haven’t been able to find a permanent of temporary fix, its probably going to be worth gambling on iOS 8.1.3.

Not only is it supposed to be coming with bug fixes, there’s a good chance that it will fix problems that aren’t listed on the change log. iOS updates have a funny way of doing that. And given that this is the third incarnation of iOS 8.1, there’s a very good chance that it will be Apple’s most stable iOS 8 update yet. The company clearly wants to wipe out as many issues as it can before it debuts iOS 8.2 and its Apple Watch.

It’s going to be worth a shot if you’re tired of the problems on your iPhone or iPad. Just know that there’s a chance that it won’t fix anything. There’s also a chance that it could bring new problems. But for those of you going gray dealing with iOS 8 issues, it’s probably going to be worth the risk.

We’re going to be upgrading on day one in an effort to see if the iOS 8.1.3 update fixes the landscape issues that have been plaguing several of our iPhone 6 variants in recent weeks.

You Want Improved Performance

If the performance on your iPhone or iPad has been struggling on iOS 8.1.2 or below, it will be worth considering a move up to iOS 8.1.3 on its first day of availability, whenever that arrives.

Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, battery life, cellular data, and overall speed often take a hit after incremental iOS updates. Complaints about these features pop up every single time Apple releases a new update and we’ve seen people struggling after the iOS 8.1.2 update. If you are one of those people, it might be worth the upgrade to iOS 8.1.3 today. Improvements may not be listed on the change log but it’s possible that it will help work out the kinks.

iPhone 6

We’ve seen incremental improvements to speed on the iPhone 5 after the iOS 8.1.2 update and it’s little improvements like that that could make the iOS 8.1.3 update worth your while. We’re going to install it on day one to see if it stabilizes the speed on the iPhone 5 and also to see if it wipes out a Wi-Fi issue on the iPhone 6 where the device randomly drops a Wi-Fi connection.

There’s no guarantee that these will be fixed but once again, small updates like these will often stabilize performance. Something to think about as we approach a possible iOS 8.1.3 release date.

You’re Prepared

If you’ve prepared for the iOS 8.1.3 update’s release and you want the latest security enhancements and bug fixes on board your iPhone or iPad, then it’s probably worth making a move.

We’ve put together a list of steps to take ahead of iOS 8.1.3’s rumored arrival and these tips are going to help you make a smooth transition from whatever version you’re currently on to iOS 8.1.3. If you follow these steps, there’s really nothing else you can do to prevent potential problems.

You Don’t Care About Jailbreaking

If you want the latest bug fixes and security patches, you’ve prepared your device and you don’t care at all about jailbreaking your iPhone or iPad, you should be alright to upgrade to iOS 8.1.3 on day one. Again, there’s always the potential for issues but most of the iOS problems we hear about are isolated rather than system wide.

Jailbreaking is also not for everyone and many iPhone and iPad users simply want the latest software from Apple. If getting bumped up to the latest software sounds more appealing than going through the jailbreak process, you’re going to be alright updating to the iOS 8.1.3 update on its day of release.
