Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Update Inching Closer

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update release could be extremely close now that Samsung’s made a crucial update to a key document for the Galaxy Note 4.

When the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 arrived in September, it arrived with a number of new features on board including Google’s Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system. In November, Google replaced Android 4.4.4 with Android 5.0 Lollipop, a brand new operating system that delivers massive changes to Android smartphones and tablets.

Samsung’s confirmed a Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update for early 2015 though the company has not outlined any specific release date details. One carrier has said that it plans to push out an update in January though most carriers remain silent in the buildup to the inevitable release of the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop upgrade.

Today, the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release has taken a huge step in the right direction. Samsung’s updated its Galaxy Note 4 manual to reflect the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The changes, first noticed by Galaxy Club, show off some of the Android 5.0 Lollipop features coming to the Galaxy Note 4 with its shift from Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The changes are also reflected in the document’s URL which boldly proclaims the word “Lollipop.”

Galaxy Note 4 users unfamiliar with the changes coming with Android 5.0 Lollipop can take a look at this document and outline some of the more notable tweaks and enhancements on board the new update. One noticeable change is to the device’s dialer. The new dialer showcases hints of Google’s new Material Design.

While this does not confirm a specific Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 release date, it does make one appear close. This exact thing happened shortly before the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update started rolling out so the changes here are a good indication of Samsung’s upcoming plans. The Galaxy Note 4 is widely expected to be the next device in line for Android 5.0 so the timing of this update makes sense.

Samsung still isn’t talking about the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release date but we’ve seen details start to hint at the company’s plans. French carrier SFR maintains that it will push out a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update in January though that release is an ETA. Software updates are highly dependent on the testing process behind the scenes and the testing process often forces delays.

Leaked information from Samsung Mobile in the United States suggests that the company is planning to push the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates in the month of January. That information remains unconfirmed and likely will remain that way up until the release dates finally arrive. Samsung rarely announces releases ahead of time.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is expected to be Android 5.0.1 Lollipop or Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. Those updates are bug fixers that Google rolled out weeks ago to help squash some of the initial Android 5.0 Lollipop problems that Nexus users were seeing on board their devices. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop serves as the newest version and its currently available for a couple of devices including the Moto G.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update will be just one in a long line of upgrades. The company is already pushing out a Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 update and it’s also expected to push out several more in the weeks ahead. Confirmed are Lollipop upgrades for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy S5 mini, and Galaxy Note 2. All of that information comes from Samsung or its regional wings though these confirmations are subject to change.

The company’s Android 5.0 Lollipop roll out will likely span across the entire year as it works to deliver updates to a number of Galaxy devices in hundreds of different regions around the world.
