LG G2 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Begins

Published

on

The highly anticipated LG G2 Android 5.0 Lollipop update has finally started after the update was first spotted rolling out to users this weekend. While LG hasn’t been very vocal about updates for the popular LG G2 or even its new LG G3, we’re now seeing the first signs of the LG G2 Android 5.0 update emerging.

The LG G2 was LG’s first smartphone with buttons on the back from LG, and it was rather popular when it arrived in late 2013 to take on the Galaxy S4 and other smartphones in its class. And while we’ve been busy talking about the LG G3, or even the lightly rumored LG G4, there are still millions of LG G2 owners waiting for updates.

Back in August LG confirmed the G2 would see Android 5.0 Lollipop, and this weekend it finally started to arrive for those in Korea. We’ve seen LG G3 Android 5.0 updates arrive as well, also outside of the US, but this is surely a good sign for LG G2 owners. Read on for more details and what to expect from the LG G2 Android 5.0 update.

LG-G2

Last week we saw some movement on the LG G2 in the United States, with carriers like Verizon pushing out some small software updates fixings bugs and potentially laying the groundwork for the Android 5.0 update, but no solid details for owners have arrived. Until now of course.

According to multiple reports and a few users on Twitter, it appears that LG Mobile has begun the update for at least one region, which means we can expect further rollouts for more owners in the coming days, weeks, and months. This weekend the LG G2 started receiving the latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop software update in Korea, and this is likely the first of many updates to come.

Not only is the update rolling out to select users, but a few videos have reportedly surfaced as well showing it off. For those looking for more information about the LG G2 and its updates, be sure to check out our detailed post below.

Back in October Google announced and released the all-new Android L release, called Android 5.0 Lollipop, and quickly updated it to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop to fix some initial launch bugs. That software has continued to arrive for Nexus smartphone and tablet owners, a few Moto X and G smartphones, as well as many Google Play Edition handsets. And while we’re still waiting for carrier devices in the US to see updates, this is another good sign for those with an LG.

The popular LG G3 released last year received the same update in Korea and parts of Europe, it too, has yet to arrive for owners in the United States. The LG G2 is a popular device but won’t see updates until after the flagship LG G3 gets them first. So for now, while this is certainly good news for LG G2 owners, we’re not expecting this update to start arriving in the United States for at least another month. Shortly after the LG G3 update completes for all carriers stateside. An update which is rumored to start in the next few weeks.

We’re hearing a few notification bugs and WiFi issues are still present on both the LG G2 and LG G3, which could be part of the problem, but either way expect more details in the coming weeks or months, and we’ll update the moment we hear anything regarding a rollout in the United States.

I received the mentioned update from verizon a few days ago. I was excited thinking it was Lollipop, but just a regular update, perhaps in prep for Lollipop.
