Apple Watch Battery Life Could Disappoint iPhone Users

Published

on

The Apple Watch was announced back in September, and while Apple teased many details about the new wearable, there were still some details that the company left out, such as Apple Watch battery life.

Apple CEO Tim Cook noted back in October that users will most likely be charging the watch every day, mostly because of how much users will want to use the device, and some new leaked information from 9to5Mac backs up Cook’s statements.

The leaked info claims that the Apple Watch will likely only achieve around 2-3 days in standby mode alone, while “heavy” application use will only be around 2.5 hours, and standard app use will last around 3.5 hours.

9to5Mac has also been told that Apple is targeting 19 hours of mixed usage,  which means that this is the average battery life that users should expect when using the smartwatch normally. This is enough to get through a whole work day, but it seems that this goes right along with Tim Cook’s statement on charging it every day.

Still, this is about the same crappy battery life that most other smartwatches on the market are currently getting, and it seems that it’ll be difficult to go a full 24 hours without recharging the Apple Watch.

However, Cook did a great job at spinning that bad battery life into a positive when he said that “you’re going to wind up charging it daily” because you’ll use it so much. By this, Cook means that you’ll love using the Apple Watch so much that you’ll end up using it a lot, and because of that, the battery will drain quicker.

Battery life has been one thing we’ve been wanting to know about the Apple Watch for a while, and it seems Cook’s words has given us a lot of what we’ve been wanting to know. Luckily, the smartwatch will come with a MagSafe wireless charger that uses inductive charging, so no need to physically plug something in, which is really nice, especially for a watch that you’ll most likely have to charge every day.

Apple Watch - Exciting Tech 2015

We’re still waiting on a handful of new details about the Apple Watch, but it’s rumored that the wearable will be released in February or even in March, so we should be hearing a lot more details then. Apple is usually known for launching big new products ahead of an upcoming shopping season, but the Apple Watch will be an exception, releasing at some point early next year. Valentine’s Day would be the only other shopping season alternatives, but if these new reports are correct, Apple won’t even have its watch out by then.

The Apple Watch will start at a steep $349 and will come in three different styles: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. There are still quite a few details about the device that we don’t know about yet, including the release date. Also, still no official word on battery life or connectivity options, which is a bit odd, but we’re guessing we’ll hear about that soon enough.
