Motorola’s new Moto X is one of the best smartphones on the market and a device that we think you need to look at if you’re planning to buy a new smartphone in the first month of the year. That said, there are definitely some phones you’re going to want to weigh next to the Motorola flagship and here, we tell you about our top five Moto X alternatives for January, 2015.

Last year, Motorola predictably replaced the original Moto X with a brand new model that improves on a number of different areas including design, display and software. The device continues to hold its own against juggernauts like the Samsung Galaxy S, iPhone, LG G series, and the HTC One. It may not have the biggest name but it’s a device that you should have your eye on if you’re in the hunt for a new phone.

The Moto X is getting older, it arrived at the tail end of summer, but that doesn’t mean that it’s no longer an option. In fact, the Moto X remains one of the best devices on the market as we head into the new year. There are, however, some devices that we think you absolutely must look at before buying into Motorola’s top option.

iPhone 6

iPhone 6

It doesn't run Android but Apple's new iPhone 6 comes with some very impressive features including a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, a speedy A8 processor, a fantastic rear camera, a metal design, Touch ID fingerprint technology, tons of storage space, and the company's brand new iOS 8 operating system.

The iPhone 6 isn't cheap, it starts at $199.99, but those that buy into the new iPhone will be getting one of the best phones on the market and one that should last three years or more thanks to new iOS software updates. Like the Moto X, it's one of the best overall smartphone packages on the market.

We recommend taking a look at Apple's iPhone 6 before settling on your next phone. Who knows, you might just find yourself switching from Android to iOS.
