LG G3

LG G3

The LG G3 is one of the premier smartphones on the market and a solid competitor to the HTC One M8. It combines high-end hardware, useful software and an inexpensive price tag into one package. The new addition to the LG G series is one of our personal favorites and it's a device that should be on the radar of those looking to buy a new smartphone at the start of the year.

Last year, LG's G3 took over for the LG G2. Since then, it has reigned as one of the best all-around Android devices on the market. From its large Quad HD display to its speedy processor to its camera and battery life. It matches the HTC One M8 in just about every key area.

Best of all, the LG G3 is now very cheap as retailers and carriers try and make it attractive next to the latest and greatest Android devices. The LG G3 might not have the biggest name but it's a big time device and it's worthy of your attention. Compare it to the HTC One M8. You are probably going to like what you see.

One thing that is a strong argument, and what is almost always forgotten by reviewers, is how the design drastically changes the durability of the hardware.
I had an LG G2, which I absolutely loved. Awesome phone, both performance and looks (my subjective view though). However, I had 3 broken screens in 6 months. Sure, often it is a matter of bad usage. But to my defense, I’ve never had any cracked screens or broken devices. I am usually not throwing my electrical devices into the ground or dropping them into a gear linkage of an Swedish Army Forces ATV truck (Yeah…my beloved Galaxy S2, may you rest in peace!). At first I thought my LG was haunted by the envious ghost of Steve Jobs (Too soon? Naaah!), but when thinking it over it is clear what was the problem.

The front of the G2 is almost entirely covered with the screen. Sure it looks good, but all the forces of impacts (however small!) are applied directly into the side of the glass which is not usually the direction high toughness glass is designed to withstand. This makes the screen really sensitive to impacts (hence, the destruction of my otherwise good reputation as a careful user).

Hopefully LG did some recalculation when they updated the G2 to G3, but I really doubt it. It looks the same and I hardly think they would make the effort and taking the cost of changing the screen manufacturer just because of an dissatisfied swede…

Just a thought. A very long thought. Love the G2, think the G3 looks awesome! But would not buy it again after all the screen changing…
