Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Update Draws Closer

Published

on

On the heels of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update release come details that point to the imminent arrival of a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. The update, which was expected to be next in line, is still unreleased but it looks like the Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop should follow closely behind Samsung’s latest roll out.

Several weeks ago, Samsung promised a series of Android 5.0 Lollipop update roll outs in early 2015. The company confirmed a Galaxy S4 Lollipop update, a Galaxy S5 LTE-A Lollipop update, a Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update, and a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. Many assumed (including us) that the Galaxy Note 4, Samsung’s current Galaxy Note flagship, would be the first to follow in the Galaxy S5’s footsteps. As we learned today though, that’s not the case.

Instead, Samsung’s begun rolling out the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update. The move comes as a bit of a surprise given Samsung’s Android release pattern. That said, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update could emerge in the near future as new documents indicate that Samsung’s preparing for an upcoming release, perhaps in the imminent future.

Several weeks ago, we noticed that Samsung had begun updating its Galaxy Note 4 manuals to reflect the unreleased Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. Today, the company’s taken it a step further. Galaxy Note 4 manuals for three variants including the SM-N910F, SM-N910C, SM-N910H have been updated to reflect the arrival of Lollipop.

The manuals, first discovered by SamMobile, don’t confirm a Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 release date though they do hint at an upcoming release. The presence of these manuals also indicates that Samsung could be close to delivering the highly anticipated Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update, an update that will take the device up from Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

Weeks ago, French carrier SFR suggested that the start of the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update would take place in the month of January. There are still several days left to go in the month so it’s possible that Samsung will hit that ETA with this Lollipop update. Nothing is confirmed though we suspect that the update is probably close now that the Galaxy Note 3’s gotten its update.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop is the second Lollipop push from Samsung following in the footsteps of the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update that was released last year. And while there are only a few Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop updates available at the moment, it’s clear that Samsung is aiming to make a strong push in the early part of the year, ahead of the Galaxy S6 release expected in March.

Samsung will also roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy S5 mini, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 at some point down the road. Samsung could also opt to roll the update out to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, a device that’s now more than two years old and one that continues to see Android 4.4 KitKat updates.

It’s not yet clear when those updates will roll out and it appears that Samsung’s focus will be on the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S5, and Galaxy Note 4 for now. U.S. carriers have yet to confirm any of those updates though with the release now forging ahead, it should only be a matter of time before we see the first U.S. Galaxy update arrive.

As we push on, look for carriers to start announcing upcoming Android 5.0 Lollipop updates, with ETAs. Many carriers keep their customers in the loop so we should have a better idea about what to expect from the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update, and these other updates, in the weeks ahead.
