If you’re not sure how to transfer your voice memos from your iPhone to your Mac, here’s how to do it.

The Voice Memos app on the iPhone is one of the unsung heroes of Apple’s built-in iOS apps, as it’s not the most popular out of the bunch, but it can be incredibly useful. You can use it to record notes without needing to type them in, and it can make for a great voice recorder while in class or in a business meeting.

However, one question that comes up a lot is how to transfer voice memos from your iPhone to your Mac. Luckily, you can transfer them to your Mac using iTunes by syncing your iPhone, but the option to include voice memos is somewhat hidden a bit.

You can also email voice memos to yourself or even add it to your Evernote account and access the voice memo through Evernote on your Mac, which can be great if you use Evernote a lot.

In any case, here’s how you can transfer iPhone voice memos to your Mac with ease.

Sync Voice Memos Using iTunes

You can sync voice memos to your Mac using iTunes just like you would with music, videos, etc. Just follow these simple steps.

  • Plug in your iPhone to your computer and open up iTunes.
  • If you don’t see the device summary page, go ahead and click on the iPhone icon toward the upper-left corner of the iTunes window.
  • Next, click Music in the left-hand sidebar.
  • Put a checkmark next to Sync Music and then checkmark Include voice memos.

  • Click Apply in the bottom-right corner of the iTunes window. iTunes will sync with your iPhone and download your voice memos to your Mac.
  • If you don’t want your music synced and only want your voice memos synced, simply select Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres instead and don’t select any music to sync.

To locate the voice memos on your Mac, open up Finder and go to your home folder (it’s the one with your name), and then navigate to Music > iTunes > iTunes Music > Voice Memos.

Email Voice Memos to Yourself

Perhaps the easiest way to transfer voice memos to your Mac is by emailing them to yourself. Doing so requires no need to plug in your iPhone to your computer and deal with iTunes. Instead, you can simply email yourself and then save the file to your computer. Here’s how to do it.

  • Open up the Voice Memos app on your iPhone.
  • Tap on a recorded voice memo and then click the Share button in the bottom-left corner.

  • Check your email on your Mac and the voice memo should be saved as an attachment inside of the email, from which you just save it to your computer.

Sync Voice Memos to Evernote

If you use Evernote frequently and would rather store all of your voice memos in Evernote, here’s how you can transfer voice memos directly to Evernote.

  • Open up the Voice Memos app on your iPhone.
  • Tap on a recorded voice memo and then click the Share button in the bottom-left corner.

  • From there, click Done in the upper-right corner and then tap on the Evernote icon.
  • A pop-up will appear where you’ll name the file and then tap Save in the upper-right corner of the pop-up window.
