New Galaxy S5 Lollipop Release Date Confirmed

Published

on

Earlier this week, we spotted the Sprint Galaxy S5 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update on the carrier’s website, a sign that it was making progress behind the scenes. Today, we’ve discovered even better news.Samsung’s seemingly confirmed the Sprint Galaxy S5 Lollipop release date and it appears that the roll out is set to begin very soon.

Just a few short days ago, Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop update finally reached the shores of the United States. The Verizon Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update is currently available to users and it brings massive changes to the flagship smartphone. That update is Samsung’s first in the United States but it won’t be its last.

This week, the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update both appeared in User Agent Profile strings on Sprint’s website. This wasn’t the first time that the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 update had appeared though it was the first time that it displayed Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, a newer version of the software. And while the sighting did not confirm a release date, it clearly showed progress being made behind the scenes.

On the heels of those discoveries comes another, a Sprint Galaxy S5 Lollipop release date from Samsung. Samsung’s website currently shows the Sprint Galaxy S5 Lollipop release taking place tomorrow, February 5th, though Sprint’s software upgrade page doesn’t show any new developments. Samsung’s website has been wrong in the past but what’s important here is that the update is confirmed and it’s likely coming soon.

Samsung’s website lists a small change log for the Sprint Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 update and it includes a vague reference to the new operating system and two other changes including and enhanced VoWiFi user interface and the removal of the Lumen tool bar. It’s not clear if the update has anything other than that on board though we should find out more in the near future.

As Sprint’s software page notes, the carrier’s Android updates roll out in stages and it can take several days for software to arrive. Typically, Sprint completes its roll outs in about a week if the carrier doesn’t discover major problems with the software. What this means is that most Galaxy S5 users could be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop before the week is out.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Rumors News - 5-X3

When Sprint’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop update does roll out, it will be just one of a few that have reached Galaxy smartphone and tablet users over the past few weeks. Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 roll out is just beginning to make a strong push and we’ve yet to see the Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy S4 Lollipop updates move beyond Russia.

Neither of these updates has been confirmed for the United States though we know that at least one U.S. carrier is working on the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update.

Sprint’s website shows that the company is working on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update. The Sprint Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update for the SM-N900P is listed as Android 5.0 and not Android 5.0.1. The listing doesn’t confirm anything else but it does point to a release at some point in the future, probably after the carrier is done pushing the update out to the flagship Galaxy S5.

It also looks like we’re getting closer to the arrival of a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release though that update is reportedly delayed until the company is able to work out code for the Gear VR accessory. Samsung’s recently updated its Galaxy Note 4 manuals to reflect the arrival of Lollipop but we still haven’t see any specific dates confirmed.

French carrier SFR says that it plans to push the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update in February but that time frame serves as an ETA rather than a firm and concrete release window.
