Kindle Sale Offers Nice Discounts on Ereaders & Tablets

Amazon is having a pre-Valentine’s Day Kindle sale on several of its tablets and ereaders, including the entry-level Kindle ereader, the Fire HDX 8.9, the Kindle Fire HD 6, and the Kindle Paperwhite.

The best deal you can get is for the company’s entry-level Kindle ereader, which can be had for just $59. It’s not the lowest price we’ve seen for the ereader, but it’s still a really good price, and this even allows you to get the model without Special Offers for the same price as the model with Special Offers if it weren’t on sale.

The Kindle Paperwhite is also discounted for a limited time, with the price down to just $99. The Kindle Paperwhite costs a bit more than Amazon’s entry-level Kindle ereader, but the features are there to justify the higher price. The device includes a front-lit LED display, which means that the device lights up the screen from the front instead of the back like most LCD panels do. This prevents eye strain when reading at night.

Of course, some of the biggest advantages of an ereader like the Paperwhite is that the battery lasts a long time. Amazon says that a single charge on the Paperwhite can last up to eight weeks (based on a half-hour of reading per day with wireless off and the light setting at ten). The same can’t be said for tablets, which usually only last a day or two depending on the amount of usage.

Ereaders also don’t come with any glare in bright sunlight, making them great for reading on the beach. This is thanks to the e-ink display that uses an entirely different type of screen technology than smartphones and tablets, and also uses up way less battery juice, allowing the device to last for weeks on end.

Another really good Kindle deal that we like is the Kindle Fire HD 6 priced at just $84, which gets you a 6-inch tablet with a 1280×800 display. It’s certainly not the best tablet on the block, but for well less than $100, it’s quite the steal.

For today only, you can also grab the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 for only $299. Again, it’s not the lowest price we’ve seen, but it’s still a really good deal and a nice big discount for Amazon’s latest tablet.

The Kindle Fire HDX is the newest addition to the Kindle lineup for Amazon, sporting faster internals and a higher-resolution display, as well as a revolutionary new customer support feature called MayDay, which allows you to get on the horn with an Amazon customer support rep through your Kindle Fire HDX tablet in case you’re having any troubles. It’s pretty much a two-way video chat session, but the rep can only see your screen and not you through the camera.

The Kindle Fire HDX is starting to age a bit, but still feels relatively new, and it comes with some impressive specs. Perhaps its most impressive feature is the 1920×1200 display on the 7-inch model that provides a crisp and sharp image. The 8.9-inch version offers an even higher resolution of 2560×1600, which is actually better than the iPad.

You can usually take advantage of Kindle hardware sales throughout the year, so there’s almost no reason to not wait for a good deal on a Kindle e-reader or Kindle Fire tablet, but if you’re wanting a Kindle Fire HDX, saving $180 is about the best deal you can find right now, so don’t hesitate if you’re looking for a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift for that special someone.
