The Apple Watch release date is on the minds of more iPhone owners today thanks to a major announcement from Apple that sets the ball rolling to finally deliver the Apple Watch to store shelves.

Originally announced in late 2014, there are many questions we still need answered before the Apple Watch release date and plenty of important details surrounding the actual release. Although Apple showed the world three Apple Watch models there is still a lot of information that we don’t have.

After months of speculation Tim Cook, Apple and a well placed leak now let us know a very good idea of when to expect the Apple Watch release date. With this in mind you can start saving, or plan on when you need to take off work to line up to be one of the first to buy an Apple Watch.

Even though there are several key Apple Watch release details missing, here is what you need to know about the Apple Watch release date while we wait for the event on March 9th.

Apple Watch Launch

We know that Apple will host an Apple Watch event on March 9th at 10 AM Pacific in California and while the event is invitation only, there will be a live stream so everyone can watch from home.

Apple will talk about the Apple Watch release date at this event.

The invite does not mention the Apple Watch by name, but the invite to “Spring forward.” right as Daylight Saving Time ends in the U.S. is a clear indication that we will learn about the Apple Watch at this event.

Tm Cook Apple Watch Release Date Reveal

Tim Cook already told the world a ballpark time for the Apple Watch release date in late January during the Apple earnings call. Tim Cook told investors, “Development for Apple Watch is right on schedule, and we expect to begin shipping in April.”

Apple’s CEO did not elaborate on a specific date, and when Gotta Be Mobile asked an Apple Store employee about this comment the official line was that they could not share any Apple Watch release date information until it was listed on the Apple website, even if Tim Cook said April on an earnings call.

A new leak claims Apple is already planning the logistics behind an Apple Watch release date in early April. MacRumors reports that the Apple Watch release date may arrive a month after the event, between April 6-10.

This is the first full week in April and Apple often sets release dates on a Friday for the iPhone and iPad, but this is a new product that may require more in store help or planning so it’s not clear what day of the week we can expect.

Apple Watch Release Dates

There is no indication that Apple plans to offer separate Apple Watch release dates for the Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch limited.

It makes sense that Apple might only offer a small number of the Apple Watch limited, which may carry a very high price tag, but nothing yet suggests that the higher price or gold design will push a release date back from the more affordable models.

Apple only announced the Apple Watch Sport price so far. This entry-level model lacks Sapphire and is made of aluminum instead of stainless steel, and starts at $349.

iOS 8.2 Release Date

The iOS 8.2 release date will need to arrive before the Apple Watch release to prepare the iPhone for connectivity. Signs point to an app in iOS 8.2 that acts as the Apple Watch companion on your iPhone. Along with the companion app, iOS 8.2 should add the option to set up Apple Pay for the Apple Watch on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5.

The iOS 8.2 release date is rumored for March and it is in the fifth beta for developers who are testing the software on the iPhone and iPad ahead of a larger release. Here is what you need to know about the iOS 8.2 release date.
