AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop Release Confirmed

AT&T’s quietly confirmed a Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop release though the carrier is very short on Galaxy S5 Lollipop release date details. At least for the moment.

In December, Samsung started rolling out its Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The update, which represents the first major upgrade for the Galaxy S5, delivers tons of new features including Google’s new Material Design. Slowly but surely, Samsung’s getting the update out to new regions and new devices and while the update’s still only available on three carriers in the U.S., that number will grow in the future.

In the U.S, Samsung’s rolled out Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates for the Verizon Galaxy S5, U.S. Cellular Galaxy S5, and T-Mobile Galaxy S5. Still waiting are owners of the AT&T Galaxy S5 and U.S. Cellular Galaxy S5. U.S. Cellular remains silent about its plans but AT&T, in a surprising move, has confirmed its upgrade ahead of time.

The AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop release is confirmed. The carrier confirmed the arrival of its Android 5.0 Lollipop software in a brief response to a question on Twitter. The carrier says that it is “working on the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy S5” and that interested parties should keep an eye on its consumer blog for details. It’s there that AT&T will announce the start of its Galaxy S5 Lollipop roll out.

Problem is, we still don’t know when that will take place. While the carrier’s confirmed the update’s arrival, it hasn’t revealed any details about the release itself. U.S. carriers typically stay silent all the way up until the actual roll out takes place so we may not see AT&T confirm the Galaxy S5 Lollipop release date until the actual roll out date arrives.

The AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is expected to mirror the Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 upgrades that have hit the Verizon, U.S. Cellular and T-Mobile Galaxy S5 variants. That means new features but it also means enhancements and changes that are unique to the AT&T version of the device. AT&T Galaxy S5 users are still complaining about Android 4.4 KitKat problems and the update should help to alleviate at least some of those issues.

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop update has made a great deal of progress in the weeks since its initial release though there is still a whole lot of work to be done. The upgrade has landed for several international models though it remains missing on many others. Most carriers remain silent, even the ones that typically aren’t silent, but we have seen at least important Galaxy S5 Lollipop release details emerge in recent days.

Canadian carrier Rogers claims that it will start pushing the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update out in February or March. This also means is that we could see a widespread Canadian Galaxy S5 Lollipop push in March because Canadian carriers usually push their updates out at the same time. We’ve also seen a Galaxy S5 mini Android 5.0 release confirmed for Q2 though Samsung France did not outline a specific release date.

Samsung’s also confirmed a Galaxy S5 LTE-A Android 5.0 Lollipop release and Rogers has also confirmed an arrival for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. It’s not clear when those updates will start rolling out though Samsung, at the time, said that it was committed to pushing out the Galaxy S5 LTE-A Android 5.0 Lollipop update in “early 2015.”

The Galaxy S5 Lollipop release isn’t the only software moving out. Samsung’s also begun pushing out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note Edge. The four updates are in various stages of release and all four are expected to hit U.S. carriers at some point in the future.

That’s not the confirming anything. They are saying they are working on it. They are trying to shut people up until it’s ready. It’s probably going to be 5.0.2.

I’ll deal with a delayed update over having to use an iPhone any day of the week. Ultimately, 4.4.4 runs well and I’m delighted with the phone I have. I

Between how long it’s taking AT&T to release the Lollipop and the S6 not having removable battery and a micro SD slot maybe it’s time to leave Samsung and AT&T
