iOS 8.2 Release Date Rumored

The Apple iOS 8.2 release date for iPhone and iPad is rumored for arrival this month ahead of the Apple Watch release.

Last year, Apple put the iOS 8.2 update into its beta program for developers confirming its arrival for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Over the past few months, Apple’s released four more iOS 8.2 betas ahead of a highly anticipated public iOS 8.2 release date for iOS 8 powered iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches around the world.

The company hasn’t confirmed an iOS 8.2 release date though iOS 8.2 release date rumors have centered on an arrival in March ahead of the Apple Watch release. iOS 8.2 delivers Apple Watch support for older devices so the theory going around is that Apple’s going to get this software out before it releases its new hardware.

iOS 8.2 release date rumors recently hinted at a release during the second week of March though a specific date was not mentioned. A recent report from BGR claims that the iOS 8.2 release date will in fact land in March and that it will land next week or the week after, perhaps as soon as this Monday. The report does not confirm a specific date for the update’s release but it helps us narrow down the iOS 8.2 release window to the first two weeks of the month.

Apple’s hosting an Apple Watch launch event on March 9th and given the iOS 8.2 update’s tie-in with the Apple Watch, it’s possible that Apple will detail iOS 8.2 on stage. The company did something similar with the iOS 8.1 update. iOS 8.1, which delivered Apple Pay to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and bug fixes to owners of other devices, was shown off on stage alongside Apple’s new iPads. The company also detailed a specific iOS 8.1 release date.

The report also suggests that iOS 8.3, which is currently on its second beta, will see at least two more beta releases. If Apple holds to that, it means that the iOS 8.3 release will come after iOS 8.3 beta 4. It’s not clear when that update will be released though we typically see Apple put a few weeks between beta releases. iOS 8.3 beta 3 was released six days ago.

The iOS 8.3 release is confirmed to have wireless support for CarPlay on board. It’s also expected to feature improved support for two-form authentication for Google apps like Gmail. According to 9to5Mac, it’s also going to bring some small changes to Emoji, links to the Mayo Clinic in the Health app, and Apple Pay support for China. It should also bring some improvements to Siri’s voice.

The iOS 8.3 beta 2 update confirmed that Apple’s adding new language support for Siri. Included is support Danish, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and English for Indian users.

While the iOS 8.3 release date hasn’t narrowed like the iOS 8.2 release date, we should see it released sometime before the rumored iOS 8.4 release date this summer.

The iOS 8.4 release isn’t confirmed but reports claim that Apple is working on an iOS 8.4 update for arrival later this year. The iOS 8.4 release date is reportedly planned for sometime this summer though a specific date has yet to emerge. The update is thought to be on track for 2015 with a music subscription service that could give Spotify increased competition.

The company is also expected to release an iOS 9 update this fall. Apple is already testing iOS 9 in a small capacity and a recent9to5Mac report outlined a big part of this update as fixing bugs, improving performance and the stability of the iPhone and iPad. The iOS 9 update details will come into focus in the June, when we expect to see Tim Cook take the stage at WWDC 2015 to talk about its latest software advancements.

Apple’s also expected to debut a new public beta program in time for the iOS 8.3 release. Like Apple’s OS X Yosemite beta process, there will likely be an app to let users submit feedback and potential problems and issues directly to Apple. In theory, this should help Apple stabilize the iOS 8.3, iOS 8.4 and iOS 9 releases before they arrive.
