Zagg Pocket Keyboard Review

The Zagg Pocket Keyboard is a slim folding keyboard that delivers productivity in your pocket for $69.99.

After using the Zagg Pocket Keyboard with the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 for the last three weeks it is clear that this is a great addition to our favorite iPhone 6 Plus accessories.

In order to deliver such a slim package to users Zagg cuts down the size of the keyboard and the keys. Due to the size there are also some very small punctuation keys, but number keys and arrow keys are easy to use.

Unlike most folding keyboards that fold and mess with the keyboard layout the Zagg Pocket Keyboard folds along a different axis so that the key placement is right where it should be.

The Zagg Pocket Keyboard won a Gotta Be Mobile Excellence Award at CES 2015, and it lives up to the promise of delivering an amazing typing experience on a folding keyboard.

It fits into a suit jacket pocket or the inside pocket of a coat, which is where we carried it. The overall design feels solid and magnets keep the keyboard closed while not in use.

There is a fold out kickstand that keeps your iPhone propped up. A small stand folds out so that you can sit the phone in it. The iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 fit in this even with a variety of cases on. If you use a Mophie iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus battery case it will not set on the stand.

Stick your iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6 or other Android device on a small fold out ledge and get to typing.

The only drawback to the design and the placement of the fold out stand is that it is easy to tap the screen while typing, especially if you reach for a number with an index finger, which puts the middle finger on target to tap the screen.

Thanks to the smaller size there is a learning curve to using this keyboard and it requires a little more proofreading than normal, but we can still type fast on the Zagg Pocket Keyboard — typing 800 words in 15 minutes. There is a split in the pace bar, but it is small and doesn’t limit the area where a user can press the space bar in any noticeable way.

The Zagg Pocket Keyboard is an 85% full size keyboard, this is what the key placement looks like.

The key size and shape is adequate, but is a step down from the Zagg SlimBook iPad Air 2 Keyboard case and the Logitech Keys To Go keyboard, but these are both bigger and not a portable.

The key travel is very small, but it is better than typing on glass. Punctuation and numbers are accessible for the most part, but we would rather see a sightly wider keyboard if that meant larger Enter and punctuation keys, specifically the apostrophe and quote keys.

It would be great to see larger keys, but with a smaller overall size Zagg does a good job of choosing where to make keys smaller.

There are small ribbons that connect the bottom and top parts of the keyboard together. While they are close to several keys they did not get in the way of typing this review and other articles during the last several weeks.

Even with the drawbacks to deliver a small size, the Zagg Pocket Keyboard is a great accessory that turns the iPhone 6 Plus into a powerful writing tool.

With the kit above we can type almost as fast as on a laptop with vastly longer battery life and greater portability. There are great apps that help users write on the iPhone while mobile, and it is also great for longer email responses or working on reports.

There are other larger keyboards that offer bigger keys, backlit keys and a sightly better typing experience, but they are all significantly larger than the Zagg Pocket Keyboard and require a bigger commitment to carry with you.

During the last three weeks we used the Zagg Pocket Keyboard with the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6, but it can also work with small tablets and it works with Android smartphones.

The Zagg Pocket Keyboard is the best iPhone 6 Plus keyboard you can fit in your pocket, hands down.
