Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Release Starts (U.S.)

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release is starting in the United States just a few weeks after Samsung pushed the Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 update out for the first time.

In February, Samsung finally started rolling out its Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. As expected, the Galaxy Note 4’s first major Android update delivered some huge changes including fixes, enhancements and Google’s Material design. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release has been rolling out extremely slowly though we’re finally starting to see some pick up in the month of March.

Note-4-briefing

Today, a new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release will begin though this release isn’t for the international community. Instead, its the first Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 release for the United States and owners of the Sprint Galaxy Note 4 are the lucky recipients.

Before today, T-Mobile was the only U.S. carrier that had a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update confirmed. Now we have two Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates confirmed for the United States and Sprint’s is set to roll out to customers today. The carrier’s upgrade page confirms its plans and we should see the carrier start pushing the OTA upgrade soon.

The Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update will bring a ton of change to the current flagship including Google’s Android 5.0 features and Wi-Fi Calling enhancements. The update is expected to be big and it should require a decent amount of space to install Over-the-Air. Galaxy Note 4 users will want to set aside at least 30 minutes to get the update downloaded and installed.

Sprint once again says that its Android updates roll out in stages and that delivery could take a few days. Typically, we see a majority of its updates roll out within the first two days but there’s always a chance that it could take longer so Sprint Galaxy Note 4 users will need to remain patient as the carrier works behind the scenes to get everyone upgraded to the latest software.

Sprint and T-Mobile are the only US carriers that have confirmed Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates though they won’t be the only ones with roll outs. AT&T, U.S. Cellular and Verizon will almost certainly push out upgrades to a device that is not even six months old.

Note-4-easy

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is making progress though it still remains very limited. Samsung’s rolled it out to three devices including the SM-910F, SM-910C, and SM-910S though all three of those updates have been stagnant in recent days. And because the company’s Android update roll outs are slow and unpredictable, there’s really no telling way of knowing where it will head next.

French carrier SFR claimed that it would start rolling the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update out in February but that didn’t happen. The carrier’s release dates, like all carrier-released Android update release dates, serve as ETAs rather than concrete release windows. Carrier release dates are dependent on Samsung’s testing and on carrier testing so we often see delays.

Canadian carrier Rogers has also confirmed the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update though it says that its release is “To Be Determined.” This could mean that it’s still weeks if not months away.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release isn’t the only software moving out. Samsung’s also begun pushing out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note Edge. The four updates are in various stages of release and all four are expected to hit U.S. and international carriers at some point in the future.

None of these roll outs are expected to finish up any time soon and we should see Samsung continue to roll them out as get deeper into the year and owners will want to keep an eye out for carrier announcements and early details.

I’m already having problems with my galaxy s4 running hot all the time, boost a lot, drainage. This is a bad choice I made in this phone. I keep taking it back to sprint and they keep saying can’t find anything when contract is up I’m moving on.
