Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update Takes Another Big Step

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop update continues to make substantial progress as another key Galaxy S5 Lollipop release is now rolling out to another big name model.

In the weeks since its initial December release, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update has taken some huge strides both in the United States and in the international community. Samsung’s job isn’t done but it’s slowly starting to get its update rolling out to different Galaxy S5 variants in a number of different places around the world.

Today, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop release has landed for the Galaxy S5 LTE-A, Samsung’s first smartphone with a Quad HD display and a device that’s limited to a select group of regions around the world. Samsung had promised the Galaxy S5 LTE-A Android 5.0 Lollipop update for early 2015 and the update is right on schedule.

The update is rolling out to Galaxy S5 LTE-A users in Korea on all three major carriers. Those who own a carrier-bound Galaxy S5 model can now check in the device’s settings for the new firmware. It should be available. If it’s not, it should become available soon. Samsung’s updates typically hit all users within a week or so.

This update represents the Galaxy S5 LTE-A’s first major Android update and like the other Galaxy S5 Lollipop releases, it brings some massive changes along with it including Google’s new Material Design.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop release continues to make solid progress as we push further away from its initial release into the month of March. Last week, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update started rolling out to an assortment of Canadian carriers including Bell, TELUS, Koodo, Rogers, WIND Mobile, and more. It’s also poised to hit another carrier in the United States.

Last week, AT&T confirmed a Galaxy S5 Lollipop update for arrival though the carrier still has not said when it plans to roll its software out. The fact that it’s now talking about the update on Twitter is a sign that the company is making solid progress behind the scenes. Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon have all rolled out Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates this year leaving AT&T and U.S. Cellular as the only major carriers without Galaxy S5 Lollipop releases.

Samsung also started rolling out the Galaxy S5 Active Lollipop update last week. The Galaxy S5 Active SM-G870F Lollipop update is rolling out in Nordic countries right now. Samsung’s update is absolutely massive, 1.4GB in size, and it should be similar to the Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates that have cruised out to its other international models in the weeks since December.

The Galaxy S5 Active Lollipop update, like the Galaxy S5 LTE-A Lollipop update, will almost certainly follow the same path as the regular Galaxy S5 Lollipop update. That is to say that they will be limited to one region before Samsung starts making incremental progress in the weeks ahead. Samsung’s roll outs are unpredictable and random so there is no way to predict where these updates will head next.

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop update isn’t the only one making progress. The company is also rolling out Lollipop updates to the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note Edge. Of these, only the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update has landed inside the United States. T-Mobile’s confirmed a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update though the carrier says that it’s still in “Manufacturer “Development.”

U.S. carriers are well known for their pre-release silence which means that owners of these Galaxy-branded smartphones may not know about their Lollipop release dates until they arrive. March has already been a busy month for Samsung and these roll outs are expected to heat up as push deeper and deeper into the calendar.
