Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Problems: 5 Things You Need to Know

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update brings tons of new features to Samsung’s current flagship model. However, it also appears to bring Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop problems to owners in the United States and elsewhere. With problems swirling, we want to take a look at five things you need to know, right now, about Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop problems.

At the end of last year, Samsung pushed out its first Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the Galaxy S5. In January, Samsung made its next move. In late January, Samsung rolled out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3, two aging former flagship smartphones that were in need of some features and some bug fixes for KitKat problems.

Shortly after those two updates arrived, Samsung pushed out a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update, the first major update for its flagship and an update that brings a ton of new enhancements to a device that’s already loaded up with impressive features. However, like Samsung’s other Android 5.0 Lollipop updates, the Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 upgrade also brings a collection of Lollipop problems.

Not listed in the colorful Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop change log are the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop problems that are plaguing some owners of the device. Over the month or so, especially after the update’s arrival on Sprint, we’ve seen numerous complaints about the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. Those complaints have only grown louder as Samsung’s roll out has grown.

With Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 problems mounting, we want to take a look at what we think are the five most important things Galaxy Note 4 users need to know about these problems. This will cover some of the biggest problems and it will also offer some potential fixes for Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop problems. Here’s what you need to know if you own a Galaxy Note 4 in the US and in other parts of the world.

Prepare for Galaxy Note 4 Problems

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release is still pretty limited though it’s poised to start picking up a ton of steam in the weeks ahead. It’s confirmed for several carriers, including T-Mobile in the United States, and we expect Samsung’s roll out to start reaching more devices in more regions in the near future.

Galaxy Note 4 carriers in the United States (minus T-Mobile) and around the world remain quiet about their plans for the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update though that might actually be a good thing considering how many problems we’ve heard about since the update’s release back in February.

Android updates are never perfect and that extends to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. While Samsung and its carrier partners are doing their best to snuff out Lollipop issues, it’s virtually impossible to get rid of them all ahead of a release.

There’s also no way to predict whether you’ll encounter Android 5.0 Lollipop problems on your Galaxy Note 4 but there are some steps to take in an effort to minimize the update’s impact on your phone and your life.

We’ve put together several steps that we think you should take before installing the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. These steps are simple, basic tips but they’ve worked out well for us in the past. While they’re aimed at novice users, they might come in handy for veteran Galaxy Note 4 users.

If you prepare ahead of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Lollipop update, then you’ve pretty much done all that you can to prevent Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 problems from appearing on your device. There is always risk involved so you’ll want to prepare and gather feedback from other Galaxy Note 4 users before installing the update.

New Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Update Rolling Out to Fix Problems

Before we get into the bad, let’s take a look at the good. Samsung is reportedly trying to rectify some of the Lollipop problems that emerged on the initial Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates it pushed back in February.

According to reports from Galaxy Club and Android Central, Samsung’s rolling out a new Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop build in Europe. It’s not widespread yet though it does look like it will spread to more devices in the near future now its being featured on Samsung Galaxy Note 4 models inside Samsung’s Experience stores in the Netherlands.

This new build comes with several important fixes. The first, the reintroduction of the Mute Mode from Android 4.4 KitKat. Android 5.0 Lollipop introduced a new Interruptions system that stripped Android of the popular Mute option that allowed users to easily mute the Galaxy Note 4. This option was not available on early builds of the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update and it looks like Samsung is returning the feature to its flagship.

The update also reportedly delivers a fix for a Contacts issue and an issue with browser performance. Samsung Norway was forced to halt its Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4 Lollipop updates and contact issues were one of the reasons why. It appears that Samsung now has a handle on this problem and perhaps, some of Android 5.0’s other problems as well.

Here’s How to Fix Galaxy Note 4 Battery Life Problems

Those who have received the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update continue to complain about Lollipop problems. In particular, some Galaxy Note 4 users are complaining about abnormal battery drain, a common problem after major Android updates and an issue that Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note 3 users have all dealt with after Android 5.0.

While Android 5.0 Lollipop could be the culprit here, often times it’s not the Android update itself that’s causing the problems. Often, it’s a rogue app or bad habits from users themselves.

Note-4-briefing

In response to these battery life complaints, we’ve put together some fixes aimed at improving Galaxy Note 4 battery after Android 5.0 Lollipop. These fixes are a great starting point for those of you that have encounter battery drain after making the move and it’ll be a good reference for those of you planning to upgrade to Android 5.0 on day one.

We should point out that some Galaxy Note 4 users are getting great battery life after Android 5.0 Lollipop. It’s always a mixed bag immediately after a major update so the more you prepare, the better.

Other Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Problems

There are a number of complaints about battery life but battery life problems aren’t the only issues impacting the Galaxy Note 4. Sprint Galaxy Note 4 users in particular have been extremely vocal about the issues plaguing their device and they’ve taken to Sprint’s forums to complain about various issues affecting their flagship.

Sprint users are complaining about the contacts issue that we outlined above, abnormal lag, problems with Google Fit, the usual array of Exchange issues, app problems and performance issues (that have apparently gone away), issues with Google Keep, GPS problems and slowdown, problems with moving files to the microSD card, and more. For the moment, these Galaxy Note 4 problems are isolated, probably because the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update itself is isolated. We expect the flood gates to open once Samsung releases more firmware updates.

It’s also important to mention that some users are having a good experience after making the move from Android 4.4 KitKat to Android 5.0 Lollipop. We expect to see a mixture of results once the update presses on.

Fixes for Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Problems

In response to these Lollipop issues, we’ve put together a list of common problems and fixes for those common Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop problems. These fixes will work for some people but not for others.

Our fixes are a great starting point for Galaxy Note 4 users dealing with Lollipop problems though we also suggest digging deep into carrier forums and Android-centric forums for help. The Android community is massive and the Galaxy Note 4 is a popular phone. Galaxy Note 4 users on XDA-Developers and other sites are likely already looking for fixes for these issues.

Note-4-easy

You might also want to think about downgrading to Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s a lengthy process but it’s a process worth investigating if Android 5.0 Lollipop isn’t what you wanted from an update.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 users dealing with issues will need to be proactive because we don’t know when the next bug fix update will come or if Samsung will choose to roll out Android 5.1 Lollipop, Google’s new Lollipop bug fixer. The company hasn’t started Android 5.1 Lollipop development yet, a sign that its release could be far out.

Agreed! This was a poorly written and useless article. Seems author is just trying to use Google ad words to pull in people that come here looking for help. Shame.

I noticed below three teething problems :
    1. Screen on battery life reduced from 8 hours to 4 hours.
    2. SpO2 sensor is continuously glowing red light when phone is lying on back, even in standby mode.
    3. Maas360 app is continuously flashing message “Maas360 has stopped working “

This update is terrible. It changed my notification vibration scheme and won’t allow me to return it to normal, and it made my lock screen notification system either hideous or invisible. No longer do I get the simple little envelope up in the corner. Now I just get to not know whether I have a message, or have an ugly bar re-arrange my lock screen.
The new system for opening the browser over part of your screen when you open a link from an app is positively dreadful as well. My phone just keeps getting worse and worse. My autocorrect is worse too.

Skimmed the whole article and all I saw was “there are problems, there are problems there’s are problems, battery life issues, there are more problems…” Way too much padding for a very poorly written and uninformative article.

when I try to install the update all I get is an error message tried 4 times, I have decided not to bother with the update as it seems to be more trouble than its worth. Might try again in a few years time. Anyway I don’t see any big advantage in the update going on the old comment if its not broken don’t fix it.

    Complete waste of time!
This article just keeps saying there are problems. If the author was speaking I would suggest he likes to hear his own voice.
    No information here at all.

It seems the professional community is the main group of note 4 owners. Therefore, it seems a professional should have written this article.
    You waste our time.
You lower your standing in the tech community.
good luck in 7th grade next year!
    Uhhh, there are problems uhhh…

What a worthless article! How many times and in how many ways do you want to tell us that there are multiple complaints about lollipop?! Nothing of value was provided in this article. Just horrible!

Worst written article I’ve ever seen. Is this garbage what passes for news now? Trump’s tweets make more sense. Unfathomable to me that useless hack Adam Mills is still allowed to work here, or anywhere on earth for that matter. Adam Mills isn’t fit to scrub the toilets at Arby’s.
Hey, gottabemobile, how about raising the bar a tiny bit and hiring some writers with a degree in tech or journalism instead of a meaningless history degree. Last time I read this worthless rag.

I also am having issues since that update. My phone 99% will not turn on or show the battery light when charging.  AT&T says there’s nothing they can do until I can get this phone to turn on. I have tried 2 different batteries and am still having this problem. The 1% it does turn on I’m not able to do hardly anything with it. I had it turned on today and took it to AT&T and they remove the battery, when they put the battery back in it would not turn back on. And then they said there was nothing they can do until the phone can turn on and stay on. I really hate to see this phone become a very expensive paper weight. I’m very fond of this phone. I had absolutely no issues until that update. We should have a petition started for Samsung, stating either fix it or give us new phones to replace these.
