3 Solutions to the Missing Galaxy S6 Micro SD Card

Published

on

There are three options to add more storage to the Galaxy S6, even though there is no Micro SD card. These Galaxy S6 storage options aren’t as portable as sticking a small Micro SD card into the Galaxy S5, but it is an easy way to carry added movies, photos and documents with you on the go.

For the last several years Samsung included a Micro SD card slot that let users add more storage after they purchased the phone, doubling or tripling the storage for $20 to $40.

With the Galaxy S6 release Samsung cut the Micro SD card and will instead offer three storage sizes including 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. So far there are no confirmations from U.S. carriers about the exact Galaxy S6 storage sizes they will offer or what it will cost to jump from the Galaxy S6 32GB to the Galaxy S6 64GB model. Apple charges a $100 premium for each jump in storage, which is very expensive compared to Micro SD cards.

Arguably the best option is to buy as much storage as you need when you get the phone, but you may want to save money up front or you may end up needing added storage later. If that is the case, here are three options to add more storage to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Galaxy S6 Flash Drive

The SanDisk Ultra 32GB USB 3.0 OTG Flash Drive offers 16 to 64GB of added storage.

The Galaxy S6 includes support for USB OTG, which means you can plug a USB drive into the charging port to use it as added storage. You can’t just plug a regular USB drive in because the connection is too big. You can buy a USB OTG cable to use with your regular USB drive, or you can buy the [easyazon_link asin=”B00RBGYGMO” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”gbm-ea-20″ add_to_cart=”default” cloaking=”default” localization=”default” popups=”default”]SanDisk Ultra 32GB USB 3.0 OTG Flash Drive With micro USB[/easyazon_link] that connects right to the charging port on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge to add more storage.

This drive works with the Memory Zone app on Google Play to help you manage your storage on the USB drive and can simplify moving files between the Galaxy S6 and your computer. If you want to keep movies, photos and other important files on the flash drive you can save storage on your phone.

It isn’t intended to stay connected to your Galaxy S6 all day every day.

The SanDisk Ultra 32GB USB 3.0 OTG Flash Drive starts at $13.99 for 16GB, $19.99 for 32GB and $36 for 64GB.

This is an excellent option for users who don’t want to plug something in to the Galaxy S6, but need more storage on the go.

You didn’t mention the Leaf micro SD micro USB adapter. RadioShack $9 easily smallest and best solution yet if you are not using the 50 to 100GB of One Drive space

I’ve plugged a OTG cable into my S6, and then a fumdrive into that… and nothing? Downloaded an app… nothing.

Words don’t express how much I’ve come to loath and hate my POS6

If you do it correctly, all operations are seamless. For USB OTG for storage purposes: make sure it is formatted correctly and mounted. For putting apps on the OTG: download and install to phone’s sd emulator and install. THEN move to OTG.

If it does work, why do apps that detect OTG say it doesn’t?

Yes OTG works, just maybe not with very large drives. I find ES File Explorer useful for managing it, plus I got a cheap dual USB/Micro-USB flash drive that plugs into both my PC and S6
