Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop Update Details Emerge

Published

on

New Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update details have emerged today and it appears that the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop release has finally started in one well known region for one well known carrier.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update first started rolling out in late January. The update replaces the device’s Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and it delivers a number of new features including Google’s Material Design. It’s a substantial update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and it’s slowly starting to make its way around the world.

Today, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 Android 5.0 Lollipop release has reached another part of the world and it’s users in Canada that now have something to be excited about.

Canadian carrier Bell today confirmed the release of its Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update and reports suggest that the update is rolling out right now to some Bell Galaxy Note 3 users. The carrier’s website hasn’t been updated (yet) to reflect the roll out yet and we haven’t seen the firmware pop up (yet). We expect both of those to be updated in the near future now that the software is confirmed to be rolling out.

Galaxy Note 3 users on Bell are encouraged to check in the settings for the Lollipop upgrade. Once it’s available, a prompt will appear and the download and installation process will begin. The update, from what we’ve seen, is a massive 944MB which means that it could take some time to download over a slow Wi-Fi connection.

Samsung requires Galaxy Note 3 users to have 3GB of internal storage space available so that the update can properly install and it appears that the update will decrease the amount of free memory space by nearly 1GB.

The update should bring a number of enhancements, fixes and features to owners of the Galaxy Note 3. There is also the potential for Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop problems to strike though with the update still extremely young, there’s no way to tell what problems it might have on board. Galaxy Note 3 users in other parts of the world have been complaining about bad battery, lag, poor connectivity, and more.

Bell is the first Canadian carrier to release the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update but it probably won’t be the last. Canadian carriers typically release their software in and around the same day and we expect to see other Canadian carriers release their Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates in the near future. The usual suspects like Rogers and TELUS have yet to confirm any dates so users will need to keep an eye open.

Last week, AT&T became the second US carrier to push out a Galaxy Note 3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The update came out of the blue and it’s rolling out to AT&T users across the US right now. Like Samsung’s other Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop upgrades, AT&T’s delivers a series of enhancements that breathe new life into the aging former flagship.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop release has been moving out slowly in the months since its initial release back in late January. It has landed for a number of devices in a number of different regions though it’s still limited in most places and a majority of carriers have yet to outline their plans. Samsung’s roll outs typically take several months to complete and Galaxy Note 3 users will need to keep an eye out for fresh information.

The company continues to pump out Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrades in the months since the initial release back in December. The company is currently focused on a number of different devices including the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note Edge. All of these updates are in different stages of deployment and only the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates are available in the United States.

Lollipop Update rolled in today on my Samsung Note 3 device , unfortunately not a great experience as when the update had installed I found most of my apps had disappeared, access to the Google Play store would not work at all. I ended up having to do a factory reset which did solve the problem. Thank goodness I had all my photos & videos backed up as the factory reset wiped everything , I only pity the people who haven’t backed up photos etc. There seemed no online fix prior to my factory reset. It’s almost as if the Lollipop update totally missed the Google stuff which is essential in the Android devices.

I wish I never updated my Note 3. Before the update, it was everything I needed. I went to bed and let it update in the night. Woke up to a totally different phone that I would never have bought in the first place. If I could pay money to have my KitKat Note 3 back, I would!

I also lost a bunch of my apps and some were bundled together. Now I have to go through to pull them out rather than have to click twice for most used apps. I’m so pissed!
