5 Things to Know About the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update

Published

on

The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update is still missing in action and it’s not clear when the nation’s second largest carrier plans to push the firmware out. With questions and frustrations continuing to grow, we want to take an updated look at what we know about the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop update and its release.

At the end of last year, Samsung started pushing out the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update. The update, the company’s first, brought wholesale changes to the former flagship smartphone including Google’s Material Design. Naturally, Galaxy S5 users in the United States got excited about the prospects of Android 5.0 Lollipop and in early 2015, the US Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 roll out began.

Verizon, Sprint, Mobile, and C Spire were the first carriers to Android 5.0 Lollipop. In late March, Verizon rolled out an updated version of its Galaxy S5 Lollipop update to replace its original update. Yes, Verizon managed to get two Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates out before some carriers were able to get out their first.

And finally, this week, U.S. Cellular updated its Galaxy S5 with Android 5.0. The update brings huge changes to users on the nation’s fifth largest carrier and it means that the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop release has been beaten out by another major Galaxy S5 Lollipop update.

AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop Update Last Among Major Carriers

With a U.S. Cellular Galaxy S5 Lollipop update now live, there are only a few Android 5.0 Lollipop updates left to go in the United States. One of those updates is the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop release, an update that was confirmed several weeks ago and one that has been beaten to the punch by AT&T’s Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates.

AT&T is the last big piece to the puzzle. The Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates from Sprint and T-Mobile are out and have been out for awhile now. Verizon’s managed to get two updates out before AT&T’s been able to get one out. And U.S. Cellular and C Spire somehow managed to squeak their Galaxy S5 updates out ahead of AT&T’s.

At this point, an AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop release date remains unknown though it could arrive at any time. What’s clear is that AT&T is going to hold back a release date until the day of the roll out so AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop users should just remain patient as the month of April pushes on. AT&T is the black sheep of the major carriers though you’ll want to remember that Cricket and MetroPCS Galaxy S5 users are in the same boat.

AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop Release Still Coming

We don’t have an AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop release date but we do know that the update is still coming. For a month or so, AT&T’s been confirming its arrival over and over and over again on its Twitter website.

The most recent confirmation came yesterday when the carrier told an AT&T Galaxy S5 user that it’s “actively” working on the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update behind the scenes. We don’t doubt it.

Galaxy S5 Users Getting Frustrated

Now that a month or so has passed since AT&T first confirmed the Lollipop update and now that the device is the black sheep, Galaxy S5 users are starting to get extremely frustrated about the missing Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Many people have taken to social media to complain about AT&T’s timing and it’s clear that some people are incensed.

And that’s just one Twitter thread.

Relax

At this point, while there is certainly reason to question the absence of the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop release, Galaxy S5 users should be happy that AT&T is taking its time with the Galaxy S5 Lollipop release.

Since December, we’ve been hearing horror stories about the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update. In fact, Galaxy S5 Lollipop problems got so bad that Samsung was actually forced to halt updates. Verizon’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop update was one of those updates.

So while some of you might want AT&T to rush to get Android 5.0 Lollipop out to the Galaxy S5, you might actually benefit from the long wait. Internal testing probably won’t catch everything but there’s a very good chance that this update will be less buggy than some of the early Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop update releases.

AT&T’s Galaxy S5 Lollipop release will come when AT&T is ready to release it. With the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates now out and available, It’s clear that the company is spending some extra time with it. That’s a good thing.

Use the Time Wisely

The final thing you should know is that you should be spending this time wisely. Instead of complaining about the update’s whereabouts, you should be preparing your device, and yourself, for the AT&T Galaxy S5 Lollipop update’s arrival. If you do a little preparation ahead of time, you’ll probably fare much better once the update arrives.
