New Galaxy Note 4 & Note Edge Lollipop Release Details

Slowly but surely, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop updates are hitting users in the United States. Today, two more dominoes have fallen as the nation’s fifth largest carrier has started rolling out its versions of the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update first started rolling out in February after updates for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy S5. A few days later, the company started rolling out the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update. The Galaxy Note Edge is the curved version of the Galaxy Note 4 that’s available in select countries around the world.

As we’ve pushed away from their initial release dates, we’ve finally started to see the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update make substantial progress. In particular, US carriers have been extremely efficient and we’ve seen a number of Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, and Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop updates push out. Today, we’ve spotted two more.

U.S. Cellular has confirmed the start of two new Android 5.0 Lollipop roll outs. One for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the other for the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. The carrier’s website says that the two updates are rolling out Over-the-Air though they should also become available through the Samsung Kies application for PC. Samsung Kies will allow Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge users to skip the OTA roll out process.

The carrier’s Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update are both expected to mirror the updates that have rolled out for other US carriers in recent weeks. That means a number of big time enhancements including Google’s new Material Design as well as bug fixes and other smaller changes to the overall look and feel of the operating system.

We haven’t seen U.S. Cellular users provide feedback though we should note that Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop problems have plagued users on AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop problems range from issues with battery life to lag to problems with connectivity. We’ve also seen users complain about a number of smaller, more isolated problems.

U.S. Cellular’s roll outs mean that there are only a few Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop updates left to go inside the United States. The T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is now the only remaining Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release in the United States.

The carrier currently has the update in testing behind the scenes though it’s not clear when the update will start rolling out to users. Testing is an unpredictable process and there’s a good chance that T-Mobile’s release date will come without an early announcement.

As for the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update, it was recently released for Sprint’s version of the Galaxy Note Edge. That update is currently rolling out to Galaxy Note Edge users and it should finish up before the end of April. Sprint’s roll outs typically take a week or so to complete.

AT&T’s also confirmed a Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update. The update was confirmed for arrival last week though details about the release are still scarce. The carrier hasn’t posted any details to its website either which means that the update remains a mystery. At the very least, an AT&T version of the update should roll out.

T-Mobile’s also confirmed a Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update though it still hasn’t received the update in for testing. Verizon is also expected to release a Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update though it still hasn’t confirmed any details for its users. Look for more details to arrive once these carriers complete their internal testing on the new software.
