Galaxy S4 Lollipop Release: 5 Things to Know in April

Published

on

With April coming to an end and Android 5.0 Lollipop update details continuing to swirl, we want to take a look at the most important things Samsung Galaxy S4 users need to know about the Galaxy S4 Android 5.0 Lollipop release.

April has been a busy month for Samsung and its collection of Galaxy Android 5.0 Lollipop roll outs. We’ve seen the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update make solid progress. We’ve seen the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop updates push out to users all over the globe. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update has finished up in the United States. Even the Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop release has been gaining steam.

In particular, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop release has been picking up the pace as we push through the month of April toward the summer. We’ve seen a flurry of new updates roll out and we’ve seen several new release details arrive for owners of the aging former flagship. Things have been busy and we want to make sure that you’re caught up to speed as we move into a new month.

Today, we take a look at the progress of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop update and outline the most recent and the most important details that’ve emerged in the past four weeks.

Galaxy S4 Lollipop Roll Out Picks Up Speed

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop update continues to pick up speed as we push away from its initial January roll out date. In the past two weeks alone, the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update has rolled out to a great number of devices including GT-I9505 variants in Italy, Spain, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Portugal, and Switzerland. As for the Galaxy S4 GT-I9500, it has rolled out in places like the Caucasus’, the United Arab Emirates, India, and Russia.

Samsung hasn’t said anything but with all of this progress, the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update is poised for a big month in May. Owners of international models will want to keep an eye out for carrier-specific information. Samsung has a tendency to keep a low profile during the roll outs so specific information will come from carriers themselves.

Verizon Galaxy S4 Lollipop Update Rolling Out Now

Earlier this week, Verizon became only the second US carrier to release a Galaxy S4 Lollipop update. It joins AT&T (Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active).

The Verizon Galaxy S4 Lollipop update is pushing out Over-the-Air in phases and users are encouraged to check for the update through the device’s settings. The Verizon Galaxy S4 update is a big one and Verizon Galaxy S4 users will want to set aside some time for the download and install process.

Like AT&T’s Galaxy S4 Lollipop updates, the Verizon Galaxy S4 Lollipop release brings a number of big time features to the aging former flagship including Material Design, changes to the lock screen, and more.

Many Galaxy S4 Lollipop Updates Are Still MIA

As we push into May, there are still a ton of carriers that remain silent about the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update. Sprint and U.S. Cellular have yet to confirm anything and a recent update to T-Mobile’s Android software upgrade page does not include the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update. That’s a sign that the update is weeks away, at least.

US carriers aren’t the only ones staying quiet about their plans for the Galaxy S4. Carriers in Australia are still quiet about the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update, a sign that users there will be waiting for weeks, or perhaps even longer, for the Galaxy S4 Lollipop update to arrive.

What’s clear though is that Samsung has ambitious plans for the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Active Lollipop release. The company’s updates continue to roll out in full force and it should only be a matter of time before the remaining carriers push out their versions of the firmware.

Galaxy S4 mini Lollipop Release

UK based carrier Three says that it will not be rolling the Android 5.0 Lollipop update out to the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini due to memory limitations. The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini was released back in 2013 and currently runs Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s available in the United States on a few different carriers including AT&T.

This doesn’t rule the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini Lollipop update out for everyone but it does mean that there’s a good chance that some if not all Galaxy S4 mini users will be left behind on Android 4.4 KitKat. Samsung still hasn’t confirmed either way and it may not in the days ahead.

Galaxy S4 Lollipop Problems & Bug Fixes

We continue to see and hear complaints about Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop problems and we expect them to grow louder as the company pushes the update to more regions and more variants. And while there are solutions for many of those issues, third-party fixes aren’t as good as official fixes from Samsung and its carrier partners. That’s why it’s encouraging to see the company pushing out Galaxy S4 Lollipop bug fix updates.

According to Galaxy Club, Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Lollipop bug fix update is starting to spread. The company is currently rolling out a Galaxy S4 bug fix update for Lollipop problems in Germany. The update takes the unbranded Galaxy S4 variant to build XXUHOD7. A change log is not available at the moment but it reportedly comes with solutions for Lollipop problems.

Bug fixes, like Samsung’s Android 5.0 roll outs, are unpredictable and random so Galaxy S4 users will want to keep an eye and an ear out as we move from April to May.

Uhm… The carrier in the UK later said the S4 Mini will be getting lollipop soon in other carriers; but that particular carrier will not.
