Over the weekend our first set of solid reports and rumors of a new Nexus smartphone for 2015 emerged, and now more details are starting to surface ahead of Google’s annual developer event that starts tomorrow.

Back in March some rumors started floating around that in 2015 the Nexus smartphone lineup would be a little different, and Google could potentially release two smartphones. One being a premium flagship phone, and another smaller version for those who skipped on the huge 5.96-inch Nexus 6.

Early reports suggest that LG could make the 2015 Nexus, and others are suggesting Huawei, a Chinese manufacturer, could make a second device. This would be the first year Google released two phones, instead of just one, and now we may have our first confirmation that an LG Nexus 5 for 2015 exists.

Over the holiday weekend AndroidPolice received some solid information from an unknown source that revealed Google was preparing to release two Android Nexus smartphones later this year running Android M, and even shared a few initial specs and features of both devices.

According to the report we’ll be seeing a Nexus smartphone made by LG, and another made by Huawei, both announced later this year and released around the same October time frame Google’s followed the past few years.

This leakster got the codenames being used by Google backwards, but according to rumors the reports are still accurate. Those being that a 5.2-inch LG Nexus 5 will be released in 2015 with a 6-core Snapdragon 808 processor just like the LG G4, and come equipped with a oddly sided 2,700 mAh battery and hopefully be more wallet friendly, vs the expensive $649 price point of last years Nexus 6.

Then another 5.7-inch Nexus will be manufacturer by Huawei, a Chinese OEM, and released by Google. This phone may also be a budget device considering the manufacturer, but it’s too early to tell. It will reportedly have better specs, a more powerful 8-core processor, and a massive 3,500 mAh battery.

Since this news arrived over the weekend, users have started digging around looking for more information, and a few users have found Google referencing the new LG-made Nexus smartphone for 2015. Codenamed the LGE-Bullhead. Google gives each device a codename based off of sea animals (the Nexus 6 was Shamu) and now we’re finding bits of code confirming the LG Bullhead. This was spotted in the official Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and essentially confirms the device is real, and coming sometime this year.

As you can see above, mentioned by Google employees in the AOSP is a list of currently available devices, but there’s also the LG Bullhead. The unannounced and newly rumored Nexus smartphone for 2015.

This could be the first actual confirmation that LG is once again working with Google on another Nexus smartphone, but again, it’s too early to tell. Typically we won’t hear too much about Google’s new smartphones for 2015 until later this summer, closer to the October announcement and November release date.

All said and done it appears as if Google will indeed be releasing at least one Nexus smartphone in 2015, and possibly two. This would be a big change from previous years, but something many buyers may be interested in. It’s also worth noting the rumors mills are claiming Google will not release a tablet in 2015. Stay tuned for more details.
