iOS 8.3 Jailbreak Release Could Be Right Around the Corner

Published

on

An iOS 8.3 jailbreak release could arrive anytime soon, as it’s said that it was demoed during this weekend’s Mobile Security Conference in Shanghai.

It’s been several months since we’ve seen a new jailbreak, and currently only iOS 8.1.2 is jailbreakable. However, that looks to change in the near future, as it seems that jailbreak developers finally have a jailbreak for iOS 8.3.

Pangu team member Daniel_K4 confirmed the news on the Chinese social networking website Weibo, which hints that an iOS 8.3 jailbreak could release when iOS 8.4 releases, instead of an iOS 8.4 jailbreak, since we’re not sure the jailbreak that was  demoed at the conference will be compatible with iOS 8.4.

The reason for this is unknown, and details in general about the iOS 8.3 jailbreak demo are rather scarce, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see some sort of new jailbreak release once iOS 8.4 is released to the public, which could be this month at some point, but we’ll probably here from Apple at WWDC as far as a solid date.

Previously, back in April, we saw a tease of an iOS 8.4 jailbreak from well-known jailbreak developer Stefan Esser (also known as i0n1c). He teases a working jailbreak on the first beta of the iOS 8.4 software. It looks to be legit, but Esser himself will likely not release the tool for it. Instead, we’ll have to rely on either TaiG or Pangu.

Perhaps the biggest road block that jailbreakers will face will be iOS 9, which is said to come with a security overhaul.

It’s said that Apple is stepping it up with security for iOS 9 by undergoing a “major new initiative” called “Rootless.” This could make jailbreaking much more difficult for iOS users.

Essentially, these new security measures will prevent various malware from being installed, as well as make it more difficult overall to hack into iOS. As an extension, this will make it a lot harder for jailbreak developers to exploit iOS 9.

Of course, we we’re not waving the white flag just yet, as developers will always find a way around something, no matter how difficult it is to break in. The only downside is that an iOS 9 jailbreak may take much longer to come up with than past jailbreaks, and this includes the upcoming iOS 8.3 jailbreak.

iOS 8.3 released back in early April, which makes it around two months since the latest update arrived on iPhone and iPad, and we have yet to see an iOS 8.3 jailbreak. There’s good reason for that, though, as Apple patched up even more security exploits in iOS 8.3.

Jailbreak developer MuscleNerd tweeted a while ago that Apple fixed 39 security bugs in iOS 8.3, which actually rivals the update from iOS 7.x to iOS 8 last year as far as security enhancements that were made. This makes iOS 8.3 one of the biggest updates we’ve seen recently as far as security fixes are concerned. Of course, some of those security fixes were exploits used by the TaiG developers.

However, it seems that developers have finally found a way around all of it, as we should be seeing an iOS 8.3 jailbreak release shortly if everything goes smoothly. We’re not sure if the jailbreak demoed at the conference was a public-ready version or not, but either way it shouldn’t be long until users can get their hands on it.

We are curious, though, as far as what the jailbreak scene will be like when iOS 8.4 releases and even iOS 9 later this year. However, Apple will most likely release an iOS 9 beta this month and will spend all summer in beta mode, giving jailbreak developers a bit of a head-start as far as figuring out an iOS 9 jailbreak, but we’ll cross that path when we get to it.
