The iPad Pro will reportedly feature a 12.9-inch display and this means that we would need to see a bigger keyboard and if it is to become a laptop alternative a more useful iPad keyboard.

Developer Steve Troughton Smith discovered that the iOS 9 keyboard scales up to a bigger size adding new characters to the keyboard. The image above shows a comparison of the two iOS 9 keyboards. If the iOS 9 keyboard simply grew to a larger size this would not be of note, but with the extra keys in the top row and other areas this is a definite clue that Apple is experimenting with bigger screen sizes for the iPad.

Apple also adds in a new shortcut toolbar on the iOS 9 keyboard that helps take advantage of screen space to deliver shortcuts to formatting and other actions. The updated keyboard also includes an easy selection option that is almost like a touchpad under your fingers.

Finally, the iOS 9 update delivers better support for external iPad keyboards with the option to switch between apps easier. There are also custom in app shortcuts for your favorite apps that are usable with an external iPad keyboard.
