10 Important iPhone 6s vs. Galaxy S6 Details

Now that we’re sitting just a few weeks out from the usual iPhone launch window, we’re starting to see important iPhone 6s details emerge. Armed with a fresh round of rumors, we want to take a look at the most important things to know about the iPhone 6s vs. Samsung Galaxy S6 matchup right now.

Apple and Samsung release new mainstream flagship smartphones every year but the two devices don’t share the same release cycle. While Apple likes to release its iPhone flagship(s) in the fall ahead of the holidays, Samsung releases its Galaxy S flagship in the spring ahead of the summer. Samsung also releases a Galaxy Note flagship in the fall but the Galaxy Note series is far more niche than the Galaxy S.

What this means is that by the time Apple announces its new iPhone, Samsung’s Galaxy has been on shelves for several months. This year, it’s the Samsung Galaxy S6 that’s been marinating as we wait for Apple to make its inevitable iPhone announcement on stage.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 was first released back in April across carriers in the United States and it quickly became one of the top smartphone options in the U.S. and around the world. The Galaxy S6 is getting older but it’s still extremely relevant and we’ve been getting a number of Galaxy S6 questions from friends, family and readers.

One of the loudest questions sounds something like this: “Should I buy the Galaxy S6/iPhone 6 or wait for the iPhone 6s?” It’s a difficult question to answer given that the iPhone 6s is still in the shadows but it’s a question that we’ve started to address in an effort to set expectations.

We’ve already taken a look at the most important things to know about the iPhone 6s vs. iPhone 6 as we push into summer and today we want to take a look at the most important things to know if you’re debating between buying the Galaxy S6 now or waiting for the iPhone 6s.

The Galaxy S6 Is An Excellent Phone

The Galaxy S6 Is An Excellent Phone

The first thing that we want to point out is that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is still an excellent phone months after its release.

We've been using the Samsung Galaxy S6 (and Galaxy S6 Edge) since April and what we've found is a serious challenger to the iPhone 6 and a device that should also give the iPhone 6s a run for its money as well. So why do we bring this up?

We bring this up because right now is a great time to get reacquainted with the Galaxy S6, its features, and some of its smaller details. We'll cover a few of them here in this comparison but you'll also want to check out this extensive list of things we love about the Galaxy S6 months after its release.

We recommend checking those out and getting familiar with the Galaxy S6 before committing to what could be a long wait for the iPhone 6s and its release. That requires more than just looking at a list online. It requires you to go get some hands-on time with it.

It's also worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is only going to get better. For one, its price has already started dropping and it can be found for much cheaper than its $199.99 starting price tag. We expect the price to drop even more once it's clear that the iPhone 6s launch is close.

It's also getting better thanks to software updates. Carriers have rolled out a number of bug fixers including Android 5.1.1 upgrades that have seriously cut down on the amount of problems plaguing Samsung's current flagship.

The Galaxy S6 is also poised to get Android M in the future. Android M is Google's latest Android operating system and some of its main components include performance enhancements. The list includes improvements to Android's code and battery life. The Galaxy S6 should benefit from these changes.
