Gears of War Xbox One Release: 5 Key Details Emerge

Published

With just a few weeks to go before the Gears of War Ultimate Edition release for Xbox One, we’re starting to see new and important release details emerge including new details about other potential Gears of War Xbox One releases. With that in mind, we take a look at some of the key things prospective buyers need to know ahead of the Gears of War Ultimate Edition release date.

In the weeks leading up to E3 2015, rumors suggested that Microsoft and The Coalition had some surprises in store for fans of the Gears of War series and owners of the Xbox One. On stage, Microsoft and its developer partners confirmed a number of new games including Gears of War Ultimate Edition and Gears of War 4, the first of what could turn out to be several Gears of War Xbox One titles.

The Gears of War 4 release date is set for Holidays 2016 but the Gears of War Ultimate Edition release is coming much sooner than that. The Ultimate Edition is a remake of the first Gears of War game and it will represent the first Gears of War release for Xbox One.

After a short beta, the developers are now working behind the scenes to flesh out the problems that plagued those who tried Gears of War Ultimate Edition early. And with only a few weeks to go before its release, the teams are likely hard at work preparing for its arrival.

In the meantime, we continue to see new and important Gears of War Ultimate Edition details emerge for Xbox One users and today we want to look at the most important details to emerge regarding its release and the release of other potential Gears of War Xbox One releases.

The Game Is Huge

Gears of War Ultimate Edition for Xbox One is currently up for pre-order and now, thanks to Microsoft, we know just how big this game is going to be.

Gears-10

The game will require 44GB of free space to install which means that those of you who don’t own an external hard drive are probably going to be scrambling to free up room for the game come August. The size is pretty standard for an Xbox One game but as Paradiger points out, it’s much bigger than the original Gears of War.

The 44GB file size means that the game is more than seven times larger than the game that was released for Xbox back in 2006. That game was around 6GB in size.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition: Xbox vs. PC

Gears of War Ultimate Edition will also be coming to the PC and at Comic Con 2015 in San Diego, the developer outlined some new details about the Gears of War Ultimate Edition for PC.

The PC version of the game is reportedly not a port of the Xbox One version, something that should be extremely exciting to those looking to buy for the computer.

The game will come with support for DirectX 12, 4K resolution, unlocked frame rate, and Windows 10 support. According to the developer, it looks absolutely stunning in 4K on a 70-inch television. The developer also says that the two games have a different feel.

No Horde Mode

If you were hoping for Horde Mode in Gears of War Ultimate Edition, time to temper your expectations because it won’t be making a surprise appearance in the remaster.

For those that don’t remember, Horde Mode originally appeared in Gears of War 2. The mode, a favorite of many Gears of War fans, pits players against waves of Locust enemies that get harder and harder as time goes on.

Gears-1

Horde Mode and its waves of Locust enemies won’t be present in Gears of War Ultimate Edition according to Twinfinite. At Comic Con 2015, the developer said that the company didn’t want to “creep too much into Gears of War 2 territory” and that without the enemies found in Gears of War 2, the mode would have been more limited then they (and players) would have liked.

The company did not rule out a return in Gears of War 4.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition Achievements

A short time ago, Microsoft The Coalition revealed the achievements that players can earn in Gears of War Ultimate Edition. There will be a total of 1250 gamer points to earn and they include rewards for both the single player campaign and the multiplayer campaign.

Gears of War 2 & Gears of War 3 for Xbox One Possible

Finally, it’s worth noting that the company is currently investigating backwards compatibility for Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3.

Gears-3

At E3 2015, Microsoft announced backwards compatibility, a feature that will allow Xbox One owners to play some Xbox 360 games. The list of games is short but it will likely expand as time goes on.

Two of the games that could make it to the list are Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3. The companies are reportedly looking into it which means that we could potentially see the games show up for Xbox One down the road. While they wouldn’t be remastered, the option to play these games on Xbox One would certainly be welcomed by fans of the series.
