Microsoft’s Kinect sensor for Xbox One took way too many hits back in 2013. Some who describe themselves as “hardcore” gamers would say that this was because the Kinect just didn’t make sense. That’s a lie; it’s more likely that people would still love the accessory if Microsoft hadn’t decided to launch with one bundle that only included the Kinect sensor and cost $100 more than the PS4. No matter, Microsoft fixed that issue roughly a year ago, making the Kinect a separate accessory that users can purchase along with a game and continuing to sell it bundled with a console – just like it did with the Xbox 360.

The Kinect for Xbox One sensor offers terrifically accurate motion gaming. Dance Central Spotlight, Kinect Sports Rivals, Just Dance 2016 and dozens of independently developed titles are a testament to that. Microsoft itself makes a workout title for fitness buffs called Xbox Fitness that features personal trainers and health tracking.

For those who aren’t into getting off the couch Kinect offers plenty too. The Kinect sensor has a built-in infrared transmitter that lets it communicate directly to televisions, audio equipment and cable boxes. It can turn on televisions and change channels with just a voice command. The Kinect also acts as the best living-room video chat accessory ever made thanks to Skype. Microsoft plans to add its Cortana personal assistant to the Xbox One later this year, further enhancing its voice command capabilities.
