Samsung Galaxy Note 5 & Galaxy S6 edge+: 11 Things You’ll Love
The new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 features will help deliver better on-hand use, a new S Pen experience and faster charging. We also learned about new Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ features including a dual-curved edge display with upgraded edge features and a new keyboard case.
Samsung announced both of these new phones at Unpacked 2015 in August and the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 release dates are coming fast on August 21st. There are plenty of Galaxy Note 5 accessories and Galaxy S6 edge+ cases coming from Samsung that will add to what you can do and to the style of the phone.
The biggest differences between these two new Samsung Galaxy smartphones is that the Galaxy S6 edge+ includes a curved display, but there is no S Pen with it. We are still waiting on Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 price details, which should be available soon.

U.S. carriers will start taking Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 pre-orders on August 13th at 3 PM Eastern and you can go to over 7,000 locations to see the new Galaxy S6 edge+ or Galaxy Note 5 in person starting tomorrow.
Most of the new features work on both of the phones, but some are exclusive to one of the devices, which we will point out as we run down the new Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 features that we think you will love. These are the most stand out features that should help users do more with their phone and will likely be the reason that many people upgrade.
Big, Beautiful Display
The Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 both feature a large 5.7-inch Quad-HD display that delivers a great canvas to work, watch movies, play games and chat. The 2,560 x 1,440 resolution is the same as the Galaxy S6 and stacks up to a 518 pixels per inch rating. With a high-resolution like this on a screen this size you will not be able to see individual pixels, which should make content look great.

Fast Wireless Charging
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ include fast wireless charging and fast wired charging. You can charge the 3,000mAh battery from zero to full in 120 minutes on a Samsung wireless charger and 90 minutes on a wired quick charger. There is no user replaceable Note 5 battery, so the new faster charging options are essential for some users.
SideSync for File Transfers
The new Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 include SideSync. This is a new service that lets users quickly move files between a computer and the smartphone wired or wirelessly. This works on Windows and Mac. Samsung promises auto detection of the other device and fast setup.
Live YouTube Streaming
The camera in the new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ includes an option to stream live direct to YouTube. This allows you to send a link to someone and then they can watch what you are streaming from your Galaxy S6 edge+ or Note 5 live without any added apps.
Great Cameras
Both of these new Samsung smartphones include a 16MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. The rear camera includes Optical Image Stabilization and both offer a f1.9 aperture to deliver better low light performance. Count on the usual array of camera modes and wide-angle selfies. The cameras include Steady Video for video stabilization and can record in 4K.

Samsung Pay launches in late September with the option to pay using the phone at almost any place that supports swiping a credit card. This is in addition to NFC payments that Samsung already supports. With the new wireless magnetic stripe transmission technology the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note 5 can simulate a card swipe at most places you can actually swipe a card. You’ll need a participating bank for this to work.

This is a Galaxy Note 5 exclusive, with an improved Air Command option to use S Pen features on any screen. The new S Pen can also start writing a note with the Note 5 display off, so you can quickly jot something down. Samsung also includes a new S Pen release mechanism that pops out the S Pen with a click.
Easier One-Handed Use
With smaller bezels the overall size of the Galaxy Note 5 is slightly smaller than the Galaxy Note 4 and the curved back helps it fit into your hand easier. The Galaxy S6 edge+ is slightly bigger, but with a curved front and thinner body it is also a phone you can use one-handed in some situations.
Samsung Knox
Like the rest of the Samsung smartphone lineup of flagship phones the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ includes support for Samsung Knox. This includes support for protection against mobile device attacks and there is also an app that helps you secure your other personal and work data.

Fingerprint Reader
Samsung packs in a fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 edge+ as part of the home button. This allows you to unlock the phone with your finger and will play a role in accessing any private mode options on the two devices.

One complaint about the Galaxy S6 edge is the lack of things you can do with the curved edge. Samsung includes two options to the Galaxy S6 edge+ software.
- Apps Edge – fast access to your favorite apps.
- People Edge – fast access to your favorite people.
In addition to these features we expect that it will also include Edge call notifications and hope to see the edge clock and edge options from the Galaxy S6 Edge.
Samsung also includes a new Galaxy S6 edge+ case that includes a physical keyboard that snaps over the screen so it is easier for some users to type.

I cannot agree with this article in many ways. Some of these features are not “unique” in any way. Fingerprint readers and Samsung Knox have been around in many other phones before. The camera and the displays have been around in previous phones as well. As I’ve said before in other reviews, this newly released phone cannot be better in just about any way when it has been downgraded from USB 3 (like the NOTE 3) to standard USB. Also no SDCard, removable battery, smaller battery than before, no IR port, no mention of the 128 GB model, and a higher price than before. Samsung has turned their Note Phones into an I-phone wanna be. Samsung must be out of their mind if they think that less features and more money is what their customers want in a phone. I love the Note series and have owned both the Note 3 and Note 4 phone until now. Sadly, this is the end of the line of what used to be IMO the best phone in the world. I will be changing brands possibly to the next Nexus. At least I’ll have similar specs and features but it’ll be a cheaper phone and I’ll get almost instant upgrades to Google’s next OS when they come out. I predict that Samsung’s next quarter sales will be abysmal. Most of the core Note series buyers will gravitate to to her brands/phones and let their wallets speak their minds. Samsung will eventually have to listen to consumers demands.It is sad to see the best phone int he world being downgraded in such ways. Only pluses are the new building materials, more RAM, the fast wireless charging and the new redesigned Air command features (most of which I’m sure will also be baked into ROMS for other phones, including the Note 3 and 4 by the XDA communities in the next few weeks. So long Samsung it was nice while it lasted. It’s time for some other company to take over the reigns and take my dollars for my next phone. It is a sad day for me to see this happen.
