iPhone 6s Plus vs LG G4: Software

We're not going to get into the entire Android vs iOS debate, that does no one any good. That said, each of these phones have some fancy features that separate them from the competition.

The LG G4 has buttons on the back, and double tapping volume down launches the camera in less than a second, allowing for laser-fast photos. It also has a double tap feature called Knock-ON that turns on the screen, rather than fumbling for the power button. These are two great features, not to mention the IR sensor for a remote control, dual-screen mode to run two apps at once, and much more. It runs a skinned version of Google's Android 5.1 Lollipop software, and will receive an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow around October, or maybe November.

However, Apple has 3D Touch, a fingerprint scanner and iOS 9. 3D Touch is a new "long press" action similar to how we move icons on our devices. Only a light long press gives users a preview of an app, picture, email, etc, and a deeper (harder) 3D press actually opens the app. It seems like a gimmick, but many are calling this a revolutionary new change to how we use our devices. I'm not sold on it, but the quick shortcuts for apps, settings, and other features is extremely nice.

The new iPhone 6s Plus will run iOS 9, which has tons of new features, including a new "Live Photos" option where images are turned into a GIF of sorts. Showing a longer, moving image. We've seen this on Android back in 2013, so it's nothing new, but Apple users will love it.

In the end the software really doesn't matter, as most users will simply choose a phone based on preference of Android vs iOS. If the OS doesn't matter, then the big screen, camera, buttons on back, customization, or iPhone 6s fingerprint scanner will have to convince buyers to go one way or the other.

Excellent article! Having a rough time choosing an upgrade from my GS4, My spouse is waiting out the Iphone 6s and I’m tempted to do the same but having a removable battery and expandable storage does make the LG G4 a lot more future proof!
