Moto X Pure Edition Release Date Arrives

Published

on

Announced at the end of July and finally put up for pre-order on September 2nd, the new Moto X Pure Edition is now available. Known as the Moto X Style outside the US, the 2015 Moto X is available starting today from Best Buy.

On July 28th months earlier than anyone expected Motorola announced three brand new smartphones. The Moto X Style, Moto X Play, and the impressive new Moto G for 2015 that we’ve already reviewed. Many users pre-ordered the phone full of customization earlier this month, but you can now walk into most Best Buy stores and get it right now.

The pre-order back in September 2nd didn’t come with any formal “release date” and order from the site still have yet to ship to most buyers. For those that didn’t pre-order one from Motorola themselves, you have a few more options which we’ll mention below.

The 2015 Moto X Pure Edition is being sold in a different fashion than any other Motorola smartphone. It isn’t available from carriers, it won’t have carrier branding or bloatware, but it works across all major carriers in the United States.

Rather than deal with carriers, Motorola is selling it directly on Motorola.com for $399, or it’s available at Best Buy starting today. It will also be up on Amazon.com as well. This will allow for faster updates with carriers being out of the way, the phone is unlocked to be used anywhere, and it can be customized with hundreds of different colors, textures, leather, wood backs and much more.

Starting today Best Buy has the Moto X Pure Edition in-stores for users to finally get their hands on, to try it before they buy. It’s also available at BestBuy.com in Black, White, or Bamboo wood, starting at $399 for the 16GB model. There’s also a 32 and 64GB version, but with a micro-SD slot most buyers will get the 16GB model and add in a cheaper micro-SD card bought from Amazon or elsewhere. Oddly enough, the 32GB model is sold out on BestBuy.com.

Buyers can also head to Best Buy’s website and order with in-store pickup, but we’d recommend entering your zip code first to make sure a nearby store has it in stock, otherwise buyers will have to wait for it to arrive at the store, which could take a few days and arrive next week, rather than getting it today.

So what is the new Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen 2015) all about? It’s the biggest Moto X yet, coming in at 5.7-inches, and has some of the most impressive specs we’ve seen from any Motorola smartphone to date. Here’s the full details.

Moto X Pure Edition Specs

  • 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display
  • 6-core Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 16/32/64 GB of Storage with a Micro-SD slot for expandable storage
  • 21 Megapixel F2.0 Rear and 5 Megapixel Front Camera (front & rear LED flash)
  • 4k Video, HDR Video, Slo-Mo Video and more
  • Pure stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop
  • Dual Stereo Front-facing speakers
  • Aluminum Design
  • 3,000 mAh battery with the world’s fastest “TurboPower” charging
  • Unlocked with Universal 4G LTE (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.)
  • Water-repellent coating
  • Customization with Rubber, Wood, Leather, Metallic Accents & more)

The new Moto X screen went from 5.2-inches to 5.7-inches, but isn’t much bigger thanks to Motorola having extremely slim bezels around the screen. It has the same impressive dual front-facing speakers, a high resolution Quad-HD (2K) resolution 2560 x 1440 HD display, and much more.

As a reminder, the new Moto X Pure Edition is completely carrier unlocked. It has all the bands to get full 4G LTE on all major carriers, including AT&T and Verizon. However, we have heard a few users are having a hard time getting Verizon to activate the device on its network, but it should work just fine. If the SIM card fits, drop it in, and you’re all set.

Motorola did promise the new Moto X Pure would hit stores around mid-September, and it appears to be right on time. Orders bought from Motorola.com continue to see later and later ship times, so this could be the fastest way to get a regular (not customized) Moto X Pure Edition right now.
