There’s a new iOS 9.0.2 update out but the most exciting iOS 9 release is Apple’s upcoming iOS 9.1 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. With an iOS 9.1 release in the works, we want to take a look at five things iPhone 5s users need to keep in mind as we head into October.

On September 11th, shortly after the iOS 9 release date was confirmed, Apple confirmed an iOS 9.1 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The company didn’t confirm it with an announcement on stage. Instead, it confirmed its arrival with a release into its beta testing program.

iOS 9.1 represents the first major update to Apple’s brand new iOS operating system and it will follow in the footsteps of the other iOS 9 update’s Apple’s released to the public. Those include iOS 9.0.1 and today’s iOS 9.0.2 update.

While iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2 are bug fix updates, they aren’t as exciting as Apple’s upcoming iOS 9.1 release. While the update should come with its own collection of fixes, Apple’s first milestone upgrade will come with new emoji including a middle finger. If you use emoji, you should be excited for iOS 9.1

With new iOS 9.1 details emerging today, we want to take a look at a few things iPhone 5s owners should keep in mind ahead of the update’s unknown release date. September was a busy month for iOS 9.1 and these quick points will catch you up to speed.

Apple May Not Announce Anything

The first thing you'll want to keep in mind (if you're feeling anxious about the iPhone 5s iOS 9.1 release) is that Apple might not make an announcement regarding the iOS 9.1 release date ahead of time.

Typically, Apple utilizes two fall events. One in September for the iPhone and one in October for the iPad. This year, it combined all of its announcements into one media event in September. Word on the street is that Apple won't host an October event this year which means we probably won't get any details ahead of time.

What this means is that you'll most likely be flying in the dark ahead of the iOS 9.1 release date. It could come at any time though rumors point to a release alongside the iPad Pro, Apple's new 12-inch iPad that's set to arrive in November.

With an official announcement unlikely, we've put together a list of things you should expect from Apple and the iOS 9.1 release. The list should help you set your iPhone 5s iOS 9.1 release expectations accordingly.
