iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 Release: 10 Things to Watch For

Published

on

The iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 update and its new emojis are confirmed but the upgrade’s release date isn’t. With new details emerging, we want to take a look at a few things you should be looking for as the iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 release date approaches.

In September, Apple confirmed four iOS 9 updates for the iPhone 5. Three of those updates (iOS 9.0, iOS 9.0.1, and iOS 9.0.2) have rolled out to the iPhone 5 bringing new features and bug fixes to the aging former flagship.

The iPhone 5 currently sits on iOS 9.0.2 and it could stay there until Apple’s ready to release the other iOS 9 update that’s sitting on the horizon.

Shortly after its iPhone 6s launch date, Apple confirmed an iPhone 5 iOS 9.1 update. The company didn’t roll out the red carpet like it did for iOS 9.0. Instead, it confirmed the iOS 9.1 update with a release into its beta program for developers and the general public.

Apple didn’t reveal much on stage but the iOS 9.1 beta confirmed several details including brand new emojis for the iOS 9 keyboard. The update will bring a taco, burrito, unicorn, and more to the iPhone 5 in the future.

iOS 9.1 is the first milestone upgrade for the iPhone 5 and naturally, there’s a ton of excitement. Thing is, with Apple reportedly skipping an October launch event, we might not see the iOS 9.1 update or its release date appear on stage.

With that in mind, we want to take a look at a few things we think iPhone 5 users need to be looking for as we approach the iOS 9.1 release date. Keep these things in mind as we push deeper into the month of October.

Apple probably won't host an October launch event which means that we probably won't get any iOS 9.1 release details ahead of the release date. So that's why those of you interested in iOS 9.1 and its emojis will need to look for clues.

The biggest clues that we have right now are the reports that suggest that iOS 9.1 will be coming out alongside the iPad Pro and Apple TV 4.

The iPad Pro is Apple's new 12-inch slate and its release date is confirmed for November. The Apple TV 4 will most likely land in October. So, the iOS 9.1 release date will likely land in October or November.

Keep your eyes peeled for iPad Pro release date rumors (we've already see a few emerge) and keep an eye out for Apple's Apple TV 4 iPad Pro announcements.

They'll help set your expectations for the iOS 9.1 release date for the iPhone 5.

I haven’t upgraded to the 6 because I’m still really happy with my iPhone 5. It’s been dropped and has taken the odd swim, and I’ve never needed to replace the screen or battery. I’m hopeful that this new update from Apple will prolong my 5, but an Otterbox would likely help with that as well! Thanks for your review.
