Shorten the Auto-Lock Time

If you're not diligent about pressing the power button to put your iPhone to sleep after you use it, then it stays on and open until it automatically goes to sleep by itself. It's not a huge problem, but it would be best for you to shorten that timeframe that way if you walk away for a bit, some can't get on your iPhone.

To do this, go into Settings > General > Auto-Lock and select a time. In iOS 9 on the iPhone, you can go all the way down to 30 seconds.
