The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active on AT&T has been left behind when it comes to software updates, just like many other “Active” or “Sport” versions of Samsung Galaxy phones in the past. However, today we have good news for those with the AT&T Galaxy S6 Active.

A few months after the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were released, Samsung unveiled another Galaxy S6 variant. Of course it was the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active for AT&T, which arrived just in time for the summer months. A durable, water-resistant phone that can stand up to the outdoors.

Sadly the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active hasn’t received the same quick updates as the other Galaxy S6 phones, not to mention it was left out of the official supported list of devices that use Samsung Pay. Today, that’s finally all changing with a new software update which we’ll go over below.

The latest version of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop was released nearly three months ago for the last Samsung Galaxy S6 on AT&T, so those with the Active have been patiently awaiting for it to arrive. In fact, the older Galaxy S5 received Android 5.1.1 Lollipop before the Galaxy S6 Active.

However, the wait was somewhat worth it, because today we have good news. This week AT&T officially started rolling out an update to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to the Galaxy S6 Active. The update brings the latest software improvements, battery tweaks, security fixes, and more. Perhaps the best part for many, is this also enables Samsung Pay, so users can make wireless payments with the Galaxy S6 Active. The phone can do it all already, and now one more feature can be added to the list.

AT&T silently started rolling the update out this morning for users, and Samsung’s released a small change log detailing what owners can expect.

This brings the Galaxy S6 Active from Android 5.0.2 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Multiple security patches including Stage-fright are on board, bug fixes, improvements to performance and battery life, and more is likely included, but left out of the change log.

Owners with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active can expect the update to arrive today, or within the next 5-7 days. Users can also head into settings > about phone > and manually check for and download the update.

For now we’ve yet to hear anything from Sprint about the Galaxy S5 Sport, regarding Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and there’s no formal announcements regarding Android 6.0 Marshmallow for any Galaxy smartphones.

At the same time, this week we learned some good news regarding Android 6.0 Marshmallow for an array of Samsung devices, and that could include the Galaxy S6 Active. However, it will likely be updated after regular models, hopefully sometime in March or April of 2016. Stay tuned for more details, and get the update today to get the most of the Active, along with Samsung Pay and more.
