Fixes for Just Cause 3 Problems Arrive

Avalanche Studios has a big update coming for Xbox One, PS4 and PC gamers that picked up its Just Cause 3 open-world action game earlier this month. The developer says that it’ll fix some of the Just Cause 3 problems that owners of the game have reported since launch.

Avalanche announced what it’s calling Just Cause 3 1.02 in an update on the Just Cause 3 blog this morning. Just Cause 3 is one of the last big-name releases of 2015. In the game, former government agent Rico Rodriquez returns to his island home of Medici to topple a dictator. Wreaking havoc in the game destabilizes the government. There’s lots of action sequences that necessitate outlandish stunts too.

Early buyers reported that all that mayhem came at a price. Some said that the game had a hard time maintaining its frame rate during action-heavy portions. Just Cause 3 Patch 1.02 is specifically for addressing performance, Avalanche says.

The update should improve loading times throughout the game. The studio does quantify those speed improvements, but does describe them as “significant.” This update also includes changes that speed up online statistic tracking and include “stability fixes.” The bug that caused some cars and boats to completely disappear is fixed.

This update to address Just Cause 3 problems is laser focused on performance, which is why it isn’t as big as updates that we’ve seen for other games recently. Just Cause 3 Patch 1.02 is just 132 MB, meaning it can easily be download by just about everyone that purchased the game – including those relying on a mobile data connection to get game updates.

Besides the upgrade to fix issues, Avalanche Software is also providing some guidance on things that are annoying Just Cause 3 players but aren’t actually bugs. It turns out that cut scenes in the game can be skipped by selecting Skip from the menu when the game is paused. That’s something that tons of players have complained about. The studio says that it didn’t forget to give players the ability to Sprint. Instead, the studio hopes that players will use Rodriquez’s grappling hook gadget to move around quickly. That makes sense as the grappling hook is already a major part of the experience. The game has tons of other gadgets too. There’s a wing suit, planes and motor vehicles equipped with the best in lethal weaponry.

Not having the ability to crouch and hide beyond things is also a deliberate decision made by the game’s developers, it seems. “Rico doesn’t hide. Getting him up in the air is out version of the cover mechanic.” The Avalanche is encouraging players that miss the mechanic to try getting in the air instead, where Rodriquez has an advantage over rivals.

It doesn’t seem as if Avalanche will ever add an on-screen miniature map to make liberating small parts of Medici easier. It is encouraging players to turn to the pause menu map to find collectible Chaos Objects within the game.

Just Cause 3 for Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PCs is $59.99 at retailers like GameStop. Besides the standard and digital versions of the game, there’s also a Collector’s Edition that includes a grapple replica and other collectible items. This version of the game sells for $19.99. Xbox One owners get a free digital copy of Just Cause 2 with their copy of Just Cause 3. The Just Cause 3 Air, Land and Sea Expansion Pass costs $24.99 and includes access to every new piece of content coming to the game over the next six months.

Regardless of platform, players should see this update immediately. Xbox One and PS4 players should get the title update automatically if they have those console’s power saver mode turned on.
