Samsung Galaxy S7 Plus Release Rumors Swirl

Samsung Galaxy S7 rumors are at an all-time high now that 2016 has begun. Since as far back as September we’ve heard small details about Samsung’s upcoming smartphone, and now today more information has emerged about either a bigger Galaxy S7 Plus, or the Galaxy S7 Edge.

In 2015 Samsung released two versions of the Galaxy S6 in April. Those being the regular 5.1-inch Galaxy S6, and a Galaxy S6 Edge. Later in the year a bigger Galaxy S6 Edge Plus was released, and we’re hearing something similar is coming early in 2016 with the Galaxy S7 Edge. Here’s what we know so far.

Rumors have been all over the place throughout December, and they aren’t slowing down anytime soon. Initially we heard four models would be announced in February, then three, and now the rumors are swirling yet again regarding what to expect from Samsung and its Galaxy S7, the Galaxy S7 Edge, and even a bigger Galaxy S7 Plus.

Perhaps the biggest leak yet arrived yesterday, when famed leakster @evleaks (Evan Blass) shared some key information with Venture Beat. Stating the Galaxy S7 would come with a micro-SD card, a bigger 3,000 mAh battery, a similar overall design as last year, but be much improved with water resistance and more. His source also stated a 12 megapixel camera would be around back, rather than the 16 megapixel camera from last year. This lower resolution camera will be better and have a large pixel size, faster with a f/1.7 aperture, and flush with the back instead of an ugly camera bulge. Essentially allowing for a better overall design.

This information was new, but everything else mentioned matched what we’ve heard so far. That being a 5.1-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display for the Galaxy S7, a bigger Galaxy S7 Edge with a 5.5-inch screen, and an overall design that will look nearly identical to last years Galaxy S6. Then a Galaxy S7 Plus will be 6-inches. Everyone from Reuters, the Wall Street Journal, Korean Times and more have all suggested the same.

Today though, that’s all been tossed upside down, and the rumor mill is again churning at full speed. SamMobile published images reportedly from the Samsung Galaxy S7, but we’re not sure if this is the Edge model with a curved screen or a bigger Galaxy S7 Plus.

The leaked image to the right is a device showing a benchmark application that shares internal specs and detailed information about the device. It matches all the recent rumors of an 8-core processor, 4GB of RAM, a new and improved 12 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front camera, and the fingerprint sensor.

However, the image also lists the screen as a 5.71-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display. That’s where the problem is. All rumors this far have suggested the Galaxy S7 Edge will be 5.5-inches, and the bigger Galaxy S7 Plus will come in at 6-inches and be the biggest Galaxy S smartphone released thus far.

This leak suggests the opposite. Revealing that Samsung will stick to the same 5.7-inch screen size used on the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and other recent devices, rather than drop down to 5.5-inches or increase the size to 6-inches.

Rumors have been back and forth for months regarding what to expect, but as the rumored February announcement grow near we’ll be hearing more and more. A few leaks have surfaced claiming to be official renders from case manufacturers, and other schematics, but no actual photos of the device have emerged thus far. That said, it’s only a matter of time until actual device images appear.

For now it’s far too early to tell, and rumors are floating around everywhere making it hard to know exactly what to expect. At the end of the day though, it looks like at least two Galaxy S7 models will be announced, a 3rd with a curved display should come as well, and Samsung looks to kick things off early with a February announcement. We’re hearing the phone will be announced and released in February, but buyers will have to wait and see.
