4 Reasons Not to Install iOS 9.2.1 & 4 Reasons You Should

Published

on

The iOS 9.3 release date is getting closer but the iOS 9.2.1 update is still available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch which means some of you have a big decision to make: Download the iOS 9.2.1 update right now or hold out.

In January, Apple released a brand new iOS 9 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The iOS 9.2.1 update isn’t as big as the iOS 9.2 update was or the iOS 9.3 update will be but it’s still an important release and one that you should have on your radar.

We’ve known about the iOS 9.2.1 update for several weeks thanks to the beta. Apple released the iOS 9.2.1 beta for developers and testers shortly after the release of iOS 9.2 and it stayed there until the middle of January.

How-to-Install-iOS-9.2.1

We’ve known about the update for several weeks though for many of you, today is the first time you’ve heard about the iOS 9.2.1 release. This isn’t surprising.

This is a tiny update we’re dealing with here. 20MB or so for the iPhone 5, 40MB for the iPhone 6s. It doesn’t come with much and that makes your decision a little bit harder, particularly if you’re coming from an older version of iOS.

To help, we want to outline some reasons why you might want to download iOS 9.2.1 today and some reasons you might want to avoid it. For today, at least.

Keep these reasons in mind as you do your research into the iOS 9.2.1 update, its merits, and the iOS 9.3 update that will replace it in the weeks ahead.

Install iOS 9.2.1 If You Care About Security

Install iOS 9.2.1 If You Care About Security

The iOS 9.2.1 update might be small but it comes with some big improvements to security for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Apple's iOS 9.2.1 update brings nine patches for potential security risks including this one outlined in detail by Wired back in January.

These are important, particularly for those of you that value your privacy and those who store sensitive material on the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch for work.

If you want to keep your device safe with the latest security updates from Apple, iOS 9.2.1 is probably worth a download right now ahead of the iOS 9.3 release this spring.

Oh really? Then why post a get rich quick scheme on a tech site. Maybe you should stop trying to get rich quick and learn more about being a tech. Or just stop being an idiot.

Thanks for your advices. I read this after I installed the 9.2.1 update as soon as this appeared in my notifications… and experience some problems with WiFi and 4G connections. So, thanks to your guidance, I just downgraded to 9.2 and there’s where I’ll remain until the 9.3 update.

But I have one more question: Is there some way to get rid of that annoying notification in the Configuration icon that urges me to update?

The Barbaraltrask takes you to a website that fishes your information (your IP, your name and anything they can get on you). What you do if you are a techie is that you know this already. What I do, is I go to the website anyways with my sniffer and swipe all their mac addresses, IPs, etc… and then when their system tries to swipe my information, I kindly send them an out of bounds IP which crashes their system and hopefully corrupts it enough to completely ruin in. If that doesn’t work, then I suggest logging onto their system with root and modifying files that are deemed important to the owner of this system. I try my best to F with them back. I did not invite them to my system so when they invite themselves, I invite myself to their system.

See this is how they work. They do the same thing on facebook. Never connect your true identity back to their system via repeated post on facebook (aka “my astrology sign is” … you just gave them your birthday). These people are the top of the scum pool in society and cruel forms of execution are too mild for them. Are politicians are too dumb to understand this.

Just some quick education for you.

I updated my iPhone 6 to 9.2.1 and my phone crashed and won’t restore from the iCloud or iTunes. Called Apple and went to my local store and neither can fix it. Had to start fresh and reload everything.

Installed 9.2.1 and my 5S started turning itself off and on everytime I plugged it in, then it turned itself off why I made a call. Took it to Apple Store where they wiped it clean and reloaded software. Blue screen of death convinced me it was time to get a 6S which has 9.2 and I won’t upgrade.

THIS is the exact reason I wish the ‘Engineers’ or whatever would just STOP F***((nG with things that Work Just Fine! -UGH!
-This reminds me of the First version of the Xbox… before they Forced the update on you that took away the pleasant ‘Welcome screen’ and friendly avatar and replaced it with a Mess full of ads and bulls** – and, Not only did you Have No Choice but to do this if you wanted to play your new game, but they- and everyone else in this industry, NEVER GIVE YOU A DAMN C H O I C E to either Keep the new mess of an update, OR go back! -It’s like Nazi’s are in charge of all digital content for heavens sake!!!.. -I was crushed when the new interface took away the simple pleasure of turning it on and choosing a game.. – Sounds silly, I know, but there was a nice innocence to it.
Now it’s all hipsters In Your Face and ads and it drives me fking crazy. ENOUGH WITH THE CURSE OF UPDATES ALREADY!!!!!
-Time to revert back to horse and buggy… now Where’s my damn Atari 2600…?

I have have learnt through bitter experience with Apple that it is generally best never to update unless you have to. If it ‘ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Long gone are the days when an iOS update meant reliable improvement. My iPad 3 has never been the same since I updated to iOS 9 something or other. Terribly laggy. Thank god I’ve got an iPad 4 with iOS6 – the last decent operating system they produced.

So for the non-tech person, just common garden-variety user who upgraded to 9.2.1 and hates it, HOW can we get rid of it or backtrack to what we had? If I dont know how to DIY, Suppose I need to just bite the bullet, and go to a tech store and pay somebody to get rid of it? Thanks.

I have received a 4S gift from a family member. I understand that Apple’d original OS for this model is iOS 5.
For someone like me that has ZERO experience on anything Apple. When OS 9.3 is launched would I be able and wise to upgrade to it and learn to use the iPhone 4s with this new upgraded OS 9,3? Does Apple offer free upgrades to any owner of one of their devices to newer versions of their Operating Systems on every one of its platforms . i.e IPhone, iPad, iPods as well as their Laptops and Desktops?

Thank you to anyone that could help me with this

I have had too many bad experiences with updates. The days of thinking that I had to have the latest and greatest are long over. I have found that an update usually means that my apps no longer work correctly and I have a number of other problems. I have learned to keep the operating system in pristine condition meaning exactly the way it was when I purchased the iPhone or iPad or computer in it’s original incarnation. You can restore your device to a former operating system if you have backed it up to the cloud or Time Machine. You would have to find a very old copy of cloud back up, with an old copy of the system you want on it. The same with a Time Machine backup. I just did this with one of my MacBook Pros, originally running 10.6 mid 2010. You can see I went through many upgrades eventually ending up with El Capitan. Every upgrade made the machine run slower and slower but El Capitan nearly killed it because the computer did not have the processing power needed to run El Capitan. So I hooked up an external hard drive I used for old time machine back ups and I reinstalled the original operating system. Now this old machine is running super fast as if it was brand-new again . Possibly this might be a good tip for someone, but I keep separate external hard drive’s for every operating system. This was something I just did by chance, so luckily I had separate backups for my operating systems. I doubt I will be upgrading in the future, but if I do I will have each system on a separate external hard drive in the form of Time Machine back ups.
