This guide will show you how to fix common Snapchat problems on your own, without waiting for Snapchat support to help you out with a solution.
“Is Snapchat down?” is a common question from Snapchat users and so is, “Why am I always having Snapchat problems?” We will help you answer these questions and solve your issues.
On November 9th Snapchat is down with multiple errors, “Could Not Connect, Please check your connection and try again.”, “There was a problem connecting to the server. Please try again.” and “Bad connection” errors.
This comes right as a new Snapchat update adds World Lenses to the app.

We’ll help you understand Snapchat error codes, explain what to do when Snapchat won’t let you add friends and explain what to do when Snapchat Lenses don’t work.
We typically do not see Snapchat down for hours on end, but once or twice a month reports of Snapchat problems spike as users cannot send snaps or view snaps even though your Internet connection is working fine.
We’ll walk through common Snapchat problems and the fixes that you can try on your own to get back to your Snapchat fun.
Is Snapchat Down?
The first thing to look for is if Snapchat is down. If you are experiencing Snapchat problems you may not be alone. There are two places to check to see if Snapchat is down for everyone or if you are the only person with problems.

Check Down Detector to see if Snapchat is down for other people as well. Many common Snapchat problems related to an outage include
- Snapchat app crashing
- No way to login to Snapchat
- Cannot connect to the Snapchat Server
- Cannot Send Snaps
This service shows if others are also experiencing the problem and offers a map so you can see if it is a localized problem.

Install Snapchat Updates
The most important step you can take before you try more advanced troubleshooting is to install the new Snapchat update. We see many Snapchat updates every month that fix problems and bugs.
If you are not using the latest version of Snapchat you are more likely to run into problems sending snaps, app crashes and other issues. =
How to Fix Snapchat Lens Problems
One of the common Snapchat Lens problems is not being able to get them to work. With the latest version of Snapchat you can uses lenses with the front and rear camera, but it can take a little practice to get them to work.
You should be able to tap on your face to get the Snapchat Lens to identify you and start working. If you are in a very dark setting, have a hat on or are at a weird angle to the camera it may not work.
Try looking directly at the camera without a hat on and tapping on your face. You do not need to tap and hold, just tap on your face. If there are multiple faces you should try using it with only one face on screen to make sure you are doing it right.
If all else fails you may need to try this next step that also solves a lot of Snapchat error codes.
How to Fix Snapchat Errors
Here’s the fastest way to fix many Snapchat errors. It’s simple, it takes only a few minutes and you don’t need to talk to Snapchat support. You do need to make sure you know your Snapchat login and password though. If you see one of these Snapchat error codes, follow the directions below.
- Snapchat expected 200 status, got 403
- Snapchat Error 403
- Other Snapchat Error Messages
The best thing to do is delete Snapchat from your iPhone or Android and then re-install it. On iPhone tap and hold on Snapchat, then on the X. Then go find it in the App Store, download it and re-install the app. On Android you may need to tap and hold then drag Snapchat to a Delete icon, or use another method depending on your phone. After that, find Snapchat on the Google Play Store and reinstall it.
Stop Snapchat From Using Too Much Data
If you need to use less data with Snapchat, you can turn on travel mode. This is simple to do, but it is not immediately clear how much data this saves. Even without specifics, this is a handy way to stop Snapchat from sending you over your data limit.
Open Snapchat and tap on the small Snapchat logo on the camera screen. Then tap on the settings icon in the upper right. Under Additional Services, tap on Manage then turn on Travel Mode.
Snapchat Account Hacking
This is a bigger problem than many users think, especially after logging into third-party apps or using a poor password. If you experience any of the following your Snapchat account may be hacked.
- Spam sent from your account to friends.
- Constantly need to login to Snapchat
- See random people on your friend list
- Get alerts that your account is being used in another area
- Or see a different email or phone number on your account
To fix this you need to change your password, make sure your account information shows your email and password and contact Snapchat.
Problems after Using Third Party Snapchat Apps
You cannot use third party plugins or tweaks with Snapchat. This is outlined in the Snapchat Terms and Services, and the company does not make any exceptions, even if you are just trying to use the service on a phone that doesn’t officially support it.
If you see a message that your account is locked, you need to delete any third party Snapchat apps, plugins or tweaks and then you can unlock the account. These unauthorized apps include any apps for BlackBerry or Windows Phone. If you keep using these apps, Snapchat may ban your account. After you do this, you should also change your password.
Cannot Change Snapchat Username
There is no way to change your Snapchat username. That is frustrating to many users, but there is a workaround.
You need to follow this link to delete your Snapchat account – https://support.snapchat.com/delete-account and then you will need to make a new Snapchat account with the username you want.
You will then need to reconnect with all your friends on Snapchat and basically start over.
Fix Snapchat Network is Blocked Message
Do you use a VPN on your phone? if so you may see a message when you try to use Snapchat that says “The network you are connected to has been temporarily blocked because of suspicious activity.”
If you use a VPN, turn it off and see if you can connect. If you don’t use a VPN switch from WiFi to cellular or from cellular to WiFi and see if you can use Snapchat again.
